First off. Yes rizzuh, you are a damn sexy bitch. Very nicely done preview, and it's obviously got the masses excited. :)

Without further introduction (other than mentioning that 333 is exactly 1/2 of 666...), I shall begin my quotefest.

One question: At what time, Thursday, might we be expecting the release of the beta? Because I live in Belgium, there is a difference in time with u Americans...
I cannot say for sure. However, if my memory serves me correctly, every single major release done by VALVe has been at 10am PST (GMT -0800). This sort of makes sense, as it lets the VALVe guys get a decent amount of sleep, then actually be around the office as things start to happen, and make sure it's smoothly released. Not for sure, but that's my best guess.

Looks like some wicked changes have been made, the scoreboard change for alive players not being able to see dead enemies will make 1v1's in wars much more tense, and harder to predict an enemy.
Here's my thoughts on what the scoreboard changes will do:
          » Add to the suspense.

» Add to the "fear" element of the unknown, which will lead to much more camping near the ends of rounds.

» Signal the death of the "last man standing" 1v1 knife fights to settle rounds.

» Create situations where AFK players will not be hunted down by small opposing forces.

» Reduce the amount of foolish rushing by players when only a few teammates remain.
I'm really going to miss those end of round knife fights.

The "three frags" thing is ace, but why doesn't it apply to rescuing hostages too?
So you're saying the roughly $8000 you get from rescuing all the hostages personally (with the "winning through rescuing" bonus included) isn't enough of an incentive? It's simply done less often because rescuing often involves reaching 2 seperate destinations, and then safely making it back to a rescue zone. Planting the bomb only requires you to make it to one destination, then protect it for a half a minute. It's easy to see why it's more commonly done.

... this will be a huge hit to the skinning community. Seeing how with steam you can't change pretty much anything except your config file. I for one hated steam in general seeing how you no longer have control of your files, they do. The only plus to the whole thing is the cheating aspect I suppose.
It's already been stated a lot of times, throughout the course of the Steam development information, that the final incarnation of Steam will let you mess with all your files just like you currently do with a full install of CS. Custom skins will still be allowed, and VALVe knows how important this has been.

The damn scoreboard thing will irritate anyone who plays clan matches, but at least it will rid you from the spasm attack of the tab button.
Clan matches are the least of your worries. It really isn't hard to keep track of 5 enemies. It gets difficult when you're pubbing on a 32 player server. Regardless, the spasm attack is all too common, I must admit. :)

I'd like more player model options..i want tits..i want female player models..voice commands..girls play games too.
What you really want is naked female models, just admit it. Knowing the CS community as I do, however, I'm sure you already can download naked CT girls. I know there's hostages like that, anyway.

Although CS has many young people that play and can be rude, its not just a kids game. And girls get hooked on the gameplay just like guys. I happen to think more girls playing would help us have less tolerance for excessive rude behavior rather perpetuate it.

Conter-Strike having a way to integrate females more into the game would rock. Thats a huge target market...why not?
Females are not a huge target market for FPS games, sorry. It's a nice theory and all, but simply put, most girls don't have a natural inclination to play games like CS. This isn't to say that some can't get hooked, but it's not the norm. The CS community is mostly guys, and will remain mostly guys. Sure, it'd be nice to have female models, but you have to realize that most of the people using them would be guys.

The scoreboard of not knowing how manys remaining might not work out...it does make the game more realistic....but u'll get more players crawling, walking and moving ever so slowly not knowing how many players are left on the othe side.....or perhaps gets players camping waiting til those players pass....
The part about "realistic" should have been stricken from your post. It's a GAME, a GAME people! But other than that, the remaining observations were actually somewhat intelligent, which was nice to see out of the hundreds of posts that contained nothing of value.
        sniv wrote..

at least the +3 frags will make people PLANT THE BOMB from time to time?

Same thing with defusing. Except we'd see people tking the defuser to try to get +3 frags and ending the game by every1 exploding.
Umm, there's what, a $3000 or something penalty for TKing? Additionally, there's a -1 to your score, and often penalties on top of that. No, I don't think we'll see people TKing to get to plant or defuse the bomb. What I DO think we'll see as a result will be the following:
» Snipers will no longer drop the bomb for others to plant.

» People will try to plant and defuse slightly more often, leading to slightly more objectives-based gameplay.

» Teammates will yell about others "stealing their bomb" that they were "clearly" running towards.

» Instead of a CT running to defuse, and his teammates running to secure the area, all CT's will make a mad dash to the bomb in an attempt to be the first to start the defuse process.
The last factor is the main pitfall, in my mind. Overall, though, I think the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
        From Changelog...

Changed so live players don't see enemy deaths in the scoreboard.
Notice that this doesn't say "live players don't see dead enemies," but rather that they don't see the enemy deaths. English grammar time. The subject of the sentence is "deaths" and "enemy" is the modifier. Because of this, it is NOT referring to not seeing enemy players in the scoreboard who happen to be dead, but is rather referring to not seeing deaths that happen to belong to enemy players.

Simply from the line in the changelog, this could mean either not seeing the "DEAD" tag next to people's name, or not seeing how many times they died. Given rizzuh's commentary on the suspense aspect, however, the second possibility is obviously not the correct one, and we're talking about simply removing "DEAD" tags. I hope that cleared things up for the few of you that couldn't seem to understand it.

This time i think they are going for a more REALISTIC CS. Do you think there would be a little score board next to you out in the battle field telling you if people are dead or not i mean come on this isnt a bad chnage people will start being more aof a team and not running around like freakin idiots and trying to kill everyone they can and oh yeah people will probably be reporting radio messages alot more now! for instance, ENEMY DOWN!!!!
Two thoughts. First off, in my view of the world (which is based on news, books and movies, so don't take it for much), CT teams infiltrating a building or whatever to eliminate terrorists would ALWAYS do recon first to determine the numbers and locations of hostiles. Terrorists would have little to no way of knowing the numbers of their opponents, but CT's would have a very good idea in many situations. Especially with the "room clearing" approach to CT operations. This is NOT real life though, it's a game. In games, we often side with "fun" over "real" to make up for the areas we can't realistically replicate. Second thought. The "enemy down" radio command will never be heavily used, because it is assigned to slot 9 of its radio category. Too far from the typical key layout for people to press it often.
        Brutus wrote..

I think they fixed the alt+tab loosing sound, but if they didn't all you have to do in game is hit escape, then resume.
That only works for some people. Others actually have to escape all the way out to the main game menu (say, if they joined from the in-game server browser), and in doing so, you must disconnect from the server. Either way, there's usually severe gui corruption. In CS1.5, the only way I've gotten around all of this is playing in windowed mode, and I'm looking forward to being able to play in full screen once more without problems.

I really wish people wouldn't post on this unless they had a clue what they were talking about. In the review, rizzuh said no. But for reference, VALVe also said you couldn't with the Steam 1.0 beta, and it worked fine for me on 56k. Granted, it was slower than hell, but it still worked. With that in mind, chances are really damn good that it will work, but again, it's not going to be a pleasant experience. If you've got a lot of patience, you may be able to get it working eventually.

And there you have it, Nighthawk's quote fest for the evening. I was actually planning on downloading the beta just after lunch on Thursday (only work a morning shift that day, and don't have school that afternoon), but then the phone rang. To make a long story short, friends are more important than CS betas, especially if they're very attractive females. :)

Enjoy your CS boys, I'll be off to coffee, hehe. :P

                great review rizzuh

i dont know if it had been ask before = what about the knife? is it had a massive change too

its better if any player can throw his knife towards enemies, like woody harrellson did in natural born killers

like, you dont have to carry a weapon, just your knife, then when meet the opponent, just aim then throw your knife into his head , bang !

then you can buy another knifes, repeat the action.

Doh... forgot what I was going to say... brb...

Ahhh, memory refreshed, here we go!

The questions about the riot shield unfortunately are ones I don't know the answers to. However, here's a few thoughts.

Whether the riot shild protects you to the side while not deployed has quite a large impact on whether it could ever be used in left/right hand configurations. If it does, switching the shield from left to right hand (even while in-game) would have huge tactical significance.

As such, if the riot shield does indeed protect you while undeployed (as it seems to do, judging from the previews), then I find it unlikely that you'll be able to carry it in anything other than your left hand. Not impossible, but unlikely.

It's possible that lefties will simply learn to shoot their pistols with their right hand, but can use all the other guns normally. That's the option that makes the most sense to me, anyway.

One last thought. There's been some questions as to how one would reload while using a handgun. I haven't had the privledge to get to play with riot shields, so I'm not 100% certain how they're held. However, in my experience with other shields, often there is a support strap/straps that allow the shield to remain on your arm even if you're not actively holding it. As such, perhaps you could let the shield rest on your arm and reload the same as always. They're obviously not going to make tons of new animations for every gun (thus invalidating all previously created user models) just to make the shield seem more "realistic" or whatever.

Alright, enough CSN time. Sheesh, took me forever to read all those comments!

Ahh crap, I just realized I was supposed to do an online quiz tonight... and now it's 3 minutes past due, grrrrrr... Oh well, tomorrow will make up for it. :)
