I have not been caught by the VAC, then again I don't cheat and have never installed one.

The only modifications I have are voicewav.cfg and HLirc. I got kicked by VAC for the first time right before a scrim on 8-4-02, but I was able to rejoin. And I love HLirc :*(.

                OK PEOPLE!

We're not saying get rid of it. Maybe it's just a random burp in the system. What's more important: HLirc or playing CS? Something has to give for now. Valve has a record for fixing issues like this in a timely manner.

On a related note, Disk2 will be working closely with Valve to figure out what happened and ensure that this doesn't happen again. Good job, Disk2!

Good to know that eventually all currently known OGC's are stopped. That way noone really whines about cheats, as it is nearly impossible.

i would just like to say, disabling sound to stop footstep aimbots is the stupidest thing i've ever heard of. Those cheats all have to hook to start with, and if it's already hooked, why use the sound aimbot when you can use one that locks onto the hitboxes instead?

I just submitted a news item about the VAC and HLirc. The version of the VAC that was in use when HLirc was first released did not detect HLirc as a cheat. However, the beta that was released a few days after HLirc's release did detect HLirc. That's why I couldn't find the problem--some servers were running the VAC beta and some weren't.

Just delete the HLirc files or unload the mIRC script and everything should be fine. The good folks at Valve are working on a plug-in system for Tracker though, which will allow easy IRC chat through the Tracker GUI. When that plug-in system is released I will simply port the code to the new plug-in system.

Sorry about the confusion. I just learned of the problem with the VAC beta today from Valve.

While Valve works on filtering cheaters, why not filter admins also. I get kick/ban of so many servers by 8 yrs old retard admins for any reasons u can come up with.

In fact the number one problem I have is using sounds, I dont listen to music while I play, my comp is hook to my sound system and I play it loud. I can pick up sounds early, use my head and position myself properly. But for imbeciles that play CS listening to pseudo-music (nowadays noises in my book) and barely pay attention to the game most of the time. Except when someone comes in and get a 3:1 ratio or better and kick their sorry ass on a regular basis.

The usual complaint from noobs and imbeciles is that guy must be cheating. Thats it! They cant be skilless or plain imbeciles, anyone kicking their asses ia a cheater, kick/ban him right away, no question asked.

                            mp_footsteps 0 = disabling footsteps

                            mp_footsteps 1 = enabling footsteps

What in the name of the Good Lord are you talking about?
I meant that footsteps won't be taken out of the game, just that HLGuard may disable them by default. The term "disabled by default" implies that footsteps can be enabled by a server admin.

In other words, if UA goes ahead and disables footsteps to take the easy way out of the situation, anyone running a server who realizes UA is retarded can enable footsteps.

First off.... Your name scares me.

Secondly, Valve does everything they can to make sure the VACs are bug free and easy to install. Nothing is perfect. If you would like to code a bug free AC, then by all means, do it. But don't diss on hardworking people, please.
Thank you. For. Pointing Out. The obvious.
