Although I talked about how i didnt like the name that won and this and that, I DO realize Narby had a TOUGH job in front of him. Choosing a name among thousands, you are GOING to piss some people off. And usually only the people who are pissed are the ones who are vocal. People who ARE satisfied with the chosen name arent as likely to come here and say so.
I think this map name contest was a good idea tho. I hope there are more like it in the future. Often naming a map is as much a challenge to the mapper as actually texturing it. You want it to sound cool and be relevent enough to the map without it being too trite or predictable. For instance, naming a jail environment map "de_jail" or "de_prison" is boring and uncreative. But at the same time you want to give it a name that hasnt been used yet. Before I submitted "de_sentinel" i did a search on google for that name and it brought back no results.
Holding a map naming contest is great. It gets the rest of the community involved and make them feel more like they play a part in the evolution of CS. I think an even better way of doing this contest could be, after the thousands of submissions are made, the mapper narrows it down to 10. Then the visitors of this site can vote on those 10 and the winner is the chosen name. That gets the players even MORE involved because they really play a big part in the final outcome.
I will mention that to narby and cliffe and maybe we can see more of this in the future!

No man, I really dont have anything against the contest or nothing, its a great idea, I am just joking around with the conspriacy (or am I?) I know, narby had a HUGE task, I mean thousands of submissions, why would you want to sort through all that, thus the "S conspiracy" No but really it is a good idea the contest thing and all it obviously brings the community together voicing their opinion, which is a good thing. In no way am I going against the contest or the whole idea of it. Narby had TOO much of a burden on him, which is also why my top 5 map idea and the community votes and chooses best is a great idea, but ya know, next time. :-) That was MY idea Rotten the vote thing, not urs, read above like comment 70 :-) see we think alike man, WE ARE LIKE ONE :-P Lets just agree between 5-10 maps :-)

Yeah well duh - of course you'd like your own map name - we all like our own!!
Well I have a plan - I already got two hit men on the job (paid of course) to go find Chris's house and take photo's of him on his computer, and then email him saying "We are watching you" and send him the photo's and then do randsom notes through his letter box to force him to choose my map name or else they keep taking pictures of him :P
Well there is an element of truth in that - simply cause I said jokingly to a couple of m8's if they would do it for a couple of hundred each and they said yes.....hmmmm, well I guess I can find the money...the mind wondersComment
