I personally wasn't impressed with the first steam, too glitchy and I couldn't use my custom models. If they can absolutely guarantee that

the new Steam won't be like that, than I may consider using it. All the same though, I would like to see a 1.6 upgrade for the retail version, which I have. I loves my guns, loves my guns......
The actual idea of steam is pretty cool really. A lot of folks are forgetting that when you use it to get the "proper" 1.6, it will download the file to your normal cstrike folder, and not delete it as a cache like it does now. As more servers get signed up as content providers, it will become an automated version of the usual CS patch days. Instead of hunting around ftp sites, and begging those who do have the file to host it for DL, you will just connect to Steam, and the Steam server will do all the searching for you. I think that when (or if...) it is properly implemented, it will be amazing. Everyone is slating it for now, but I hope it will eventually become like Windows Updater. The kind of thing that you don't miss until it's gone. It will take all the hassle out of getting new updates. And I'm not even mentioning the fact that you will have the rights to receive your software on ANY pc that you can log into using Steam. I am disappointed that they thought a 500 meg line would be enough to cope, seeing how hyped up this was. But I suppose if they are meant to learn from a beta test, this was all the teaching they needed... Good Luck Valve tbh, lets hope you get it all sorted soon. Until then, I'm off to own some more on 1.5

how many idiots are here anyway? it had been said before: its a BETA, and not a final release so you can play 1.6. its meant for TESTING. you don't have the right to expect this BETA release to go smoothly, nor that you could play on it like you play 1.5 right now.

you're all a bunch spoiled kids: expecting everything to go your way.

yes. I feel that steam is still the way to go. There are a couple reasons for this:

          1) it should hopefully allow players/servers to play custom maps much easier.

          2) they will be able to update small bugs etc very easily. A prime example would be that they could easily patch up that recently exposed client hack.

          3) combined with VAC, they will be able to do more to combat cheating more easily. being able to replace mp and client dlls at will on every client will allow them to easily frustrate the hack makers.

it's working fine for a BETA....there are only 3 major issues...

            1-Can't play online

            2-It's slow as hell

            3-Crashes sometimes

Thats simply becaus too many peoples want to play it now nownow.

All of us trying to connect at once (yes, me too) simply flooded the whole thing. and they are fixing it as we speak.

Exactly. I tested the first steam with cs 1.4 and I figured I would test cs 1.6 as well but if I cant get in and they say they are having problems, then everyone should stay out till valve clears it. Hell they have a completely new vgui and people expect it to suddenly work perfectly. In my own little private game I must say though the Galil sounds very cool and the FAMAS was a let down like I was told to expect. I am hoping the testing goes well so they can release 1.6 in a few months.

I've just had a moment of clarity as to why the beta test has gone the way it has. Let's imagine for a second that you work at Valve. You read CSNation every day, and realise that come 01/16 you are going to get about 200,000 hits on the steam site of folks wanting the download. Then all those folks are going to be downloading 1.6 off your 500 meg Steam server. Basically, Valve MUST have known before yesterday that this many people are going to want 1.6 beta. You can't cancel a beta test, as you need to know if it works, yet you can't cope withy demand. So the best way out of it is to "leak" a file to a few sites and let it spread. You get several thousand people stress testing your server, without the hassle of even moer clogging things up trying to get Steam2. I notice that even though the "official" beta test is cancelled, the press release still asked those who had it to send bug reports. Why didn't they just cancel it al, unless they had mad a contingency plan to get the few that have it to report back? Any thoughts?

I hope the Galil will get a bit more expensive, the famas sounds ok: for the price you pay I didn't expect a 2e version of the m4a1

Once again this is only a god damn beta test you cant get 1.6 without using steam. Steam is valves new content deliverery system and in a few months hopefully 1.6 will be out for normal download

yea it seems a bit to powerful and accurate for $2000 but the famas might be cool I still have yet to shoot someone with it

you can only get it through steam. read about it before asking stupid questions

and FAF, nice theory, could be right.

I think your spot on, why would al leaked version be avalible on their main site unless they leaked it themselvs to test their servers with a small group.
