Steam 2.0 BETA Delayed

Man, steam sucks so much! I am in but I can't download cs 1.6 !!! I hate them!

ahhh. i dled the whole thing. and i got an error while it was updating. i restarted Steam and doubled clicked cs again. now it wants to dl 1.6 all over again. the counter-strike and half life directory along with it's files are still under the Steam directory

[Edit: Yes, that's where you'd update it, but normally there'd be a progress meter going across, if you were able to successfully connect. It would seem you're NOT able to connect, so wait until they say they're doing the beta release again, and it should work for you then. -Nighthawk]

IF ANYONE WHO HAS ACTUALLY DOWNLOADED 1.6b COULD THEY MAKE A BACKUP OF THE STEAMCACHE DIRECTORY?

Let's hope they open up some other servers soon. I cant lan by myself on airstrip anymore. The Galil gives me the worst headache. Its so loud.

how do i relaunch the update? i finished dling and the files show up in the Steamcache directory, but never updated my cs

damn i know its BETA, jebus u guys flame on me like a marshmallow at fat camp. its just that they could have run some tests and blah blah blah i dont care 1.5 is fun screw 1.6

steam doesn't suck, its a very good idea, is just that everyone is trying to get CS 1.6 beta right now, as if its the final release, and Valve didn't expect that.



just be patient, and play smthing else for now.

If you cant download steam, or are having problems connecting... go play cs 1.5 or diablo or something. You aren't missing anything because none of us can play anyways. Try again the next day, and if it still doesnt work, try the day after that.



If you CAN connect to steam but for whatever reason aren't able to open your own server. I found a little trick that worked for me. Try taking you steam.dll file and copying it to your counter-strike folder that is within your steam directory (steam/SteamCache/counter-strike). Then try to get your sserver up and running. Other people still won't be able to join, but hey, at least you can check out teh additions now.



Hope that helped you... and remember, that doesn;t work in all cases, but I have seen it work in a decent amount. Good luck and have fun!

i can create my own server...takes about 5 mins or so but it didn't crash...



Galil is great....more accurate than the ak...but hell....somebody plz stop that sound!!



Famas is greater than the galil....i tried it for about 20 mins....if you quick switch between bursts and auto it's VERY accurate...



airstrip is kewl...except for the weird pink textures at the terrorist spawn...



hey...i have a question....anyone has been able to play online??? cause i can't!



P.S.: Riot shield kicks ass!! this thing will be great for peaking around corners!!

All the "lag" is caused by the idiots flooding Valve's server/s. Especially the idiots on 56k. The bugs are there for a reason. This is a BETA. NOT a final release. It's expected to have bugs. If you didn't expect bugs then you have no idea what a beta is, and you never should have even tried to download Steam BETA 2.0.



The whole purpose of this beta is so Valve can get some extra (free) help with their programs. A few thousand people will deffinately catch more than the 10 people (if that) that work in QA. The other ulterior motive behind this was so that Valve could stress test their server/s.



Like I said before.. if you expected to download this and everything to be smooth sailing you're sadly mistaken on what a beta version is, and you never should have even downloaded this.



Aside from that, the new smoke grenades look a hell of a lot better than previous versions. It's not exactly volumetric, but it still gets the job done much better than the former.



My only gripes thus far are that I can't connect to anyone's server, I can't use a silenced USP with the riot shield, and the bass seems to be a little too high on all the guns. The ladder is probably a setting on my PC, but nothing has been changed from 1.5.. and so far 1.6b is the only version (even the only game on my PC) that has the whacked sound.



Everything else was actually smooth for me. Connected to Steam after I downloaded it (from Valve's 'Steampowered' website), created an account (no problems), got in, downloaded CS's footprint in about 30 minutes (a little slower than usual, but that's acceptable), and I was in CS about 10 minutes after that.

I'm gonna defend valve on this one:

Bandwidth. It doesn't come cheap. Let alone, how many of use did try Steam the first time? Valve wasn't expecting this many people to beta test like in 1.5. I remember that in beta 1.5, there were only 3 or 4 servers hosting a game while everyone was stuck on 1.4.



For the love of god, Valve owes us nothing. They are the ones giving us these updates. Don't like valve? Go learn to program your own cs clone.

I downloaded CS 1.6Beta in 18minutes. It first said it was going to be 42, then it jumped to 33 and then to 18. I have now tested de_airstrip, the new weapons and the shield, de_aztec and de_inferno... I got tears in my eyes, seeing such beauty! :'( Now i want to connect to a server to play with others, but they keep rejecting me... thx cs team, u rox! Oh, and why cant i connect to Friends? Is it down?
