    Did anyone else here notice there is a new sky in de_nuke and some rust on the facility? And are there new lanterns in de_storm? Piranesi has been reworked great, maybe i'll play it more often now... :p

          About time they were.

          Well, I don't think cosmetic changes can save piranesi, all things considered, but it does seem to be an improvement over the original. Perhaps it'll seem a bit better in large games now... we'll see.

            Tundra - gone?! That was the only map in which I could outwit a team of T's as the VIP (you jump up into the left corner where you spawn for about 1 minute, by which time the T's are closer and looking around underground - so you run to the end, hiding instead of shooting - works 90% of the time, or it did...)

            Vegas - gone?!

            Err, bleurgh.

            I have to admit I've only ever played Piransi once, and that was because I clicked on the wrong map. I say, 'played', what it actually was involved a glance before loading up the correct map.

            Nice textures though. Those plants/transparency really add do give us mappers a lot more to play with...

              It's a real shame that most people on public servers only ever want dust, aztec or italy. I have even had times on our server that I have changed to a map like tundra, and the whole of the server vote aztec back in

              I came to CS because, as I was 56k at the time, it was a lot more low bandwidth friendly; no fast paced DM. With this, I thought I would be getting some ncie slow tactical gaming, but everyone under the age of 16 seems to think otherwise. My clan is (with one exception) all over 20, and we prefer it that way. I'm not railing on those of us not old enough to vote, but it's a shame that the game has drifted this way. I still congratulate Dave on one of my favourite gaming levels ever. Dust has always had the advantage of pleasing both camps. You can either rush it, or play the waiting game, both are valid. It's just a shame that each side of the argument can't see the other side now and again...

                Piranesi is good, maybe too big. But CS need some maps that doesnt turn into a spamfest with more than 20 players.

                Hope to see more maps in HL using the new visual features.

                  DUDE, what's the point in putting a tree in a map.. it's truly a gimmick...

                  when will they just gear their efforts to a new cs on a new engine with a lot more NEW content...

                    i don't think all maps "need 3 routes, hostages in 2 places etc." because then all the maps end up being variations on the same design. on some maps you can't win as a CT with out team work and flash-bangs: like assault. knowing the maps and using teamwork should be as important to being a good CS player as having l337 He4d-5ho7 S|<!LLz.

                    maps that are popular on public servers are all maps that screeam "RUSH, go, go, go!" or "campzor teh Basezor." because these are the only stratiges nubs can understand/excecute.

                    ..ever tried to get your whole team to be quiet for more than 5 sec so you can sneak somewhere? most players never use the walk key.

                    CS needs maps that require thinking/teamwork to be successfull. otherwise it will turn into quake arena.

                      Understanding de_piranesi is much easier than calculating a simple formular if you have a will. People just don't like to "study" new maps of CS. Thus, they just like to keep sniping with an awp at a wide open area in a map like de_dust, de_aztec(sicked of and bored with it-_-.) That's why the new maps are rarely played in servers. It's not because the new maps are complex or bad on gameplay...

                      I personally played the new piranesi map in CS1.6 with only 7 people(4vs4), and it was as fun as playing in other CS maps. No one bitched about the size of the map or complexity of the map through the 40 rounds.

                      I think, and I wish, that adding briliant new custom maps by well-known mappers or underdogs is a cool idea to rejuvenate(well, CS is still fun, but...) CS.

                        I don't think militia's sky is intentional. Climb up to the roof - it's using the skybox from Oilrig! Either the house in militia is on an island now, or VALVe made a small boo-boo. I don't know about nuke though.

                          I loved the old piranesi, I'll have to check this new one out.. I memorized Piranesi in ~5 minutes while everyone else on the server (for first time we played back in 1.4) was complaining. It was truly a great map, and even by myself I could outwit the other team.. its just that it was a bitch as a CT to win (another reason I loved it, lots of practice for some of the harder maps).. But I guess thats the reason for changing it. Have to admit though, I'm going to miss the old Piranesi, even if I haven't tried this new one out

                            i have had maps load with the sky-box from the previous map.

                            it feels weird to play dust2 at night. I'm pretty sure it was just my client. no one else mentioned it.

                                <rant>

                                If all those people who are bitching about how Piranesi is 'too big' or 'too complicated' or 'crap' spend less time sniping / deathmatching on their ever so precious dust(2) / Aztec , and actually spend a several sessions playing Piranesi, they might actually find it fun!

                                It's not too big, it's not too hidiously complicated - the bomb sites are actually quite easy to get to from each other - but you got to have some patience in actually playing it a few times to know the routes! Otherwise, it seems that these people are either too bone lazy to learn something that isn't sitting in a corner or rushing thru a corridor where every T will be (go play Quake DM freaks) or these people are the typical lot who whine and grind everytime something new is out - typical teen angst - no wonder why age limits exist for certain things..

                                </rant>

                                The interesting thing about Piranesi is that, a single sniper cannot singlehandedly pwn the whole opposite team (like some maps i can think off ... dust 2, aztec) just like so without some intelligent tactical play / backup from the team. You can go deathmatching around, but the more intelligent team will have the better chance.
