» The program doesn't work 90% of the time, so there isn't a huge point in downloading it. A lot of players are patient (read: social experiment failures) and have waited hours to play the game for a bit. CS 1.6 is actually pretty cool so I don't blame them, but for the other people it's really not fun waiting for everything to download and then getting an error, etc.Woo!

CS Central posted the copy they got from the press playtest, I believe. It's the same one that would have been released officially. Steam 2.0 BETA was never released for download to the mirror sites which would have posted it officially.Comment

Also, I don't know if I'm going to get tortured for having Steam... I'm sorryyy :'( :'( A friend of mine just said "check it out I found it" Right after the official Steam release (well, the thursday one. The one that didn't work) so I thought.. hey mirrors!

laff, my steam doesnt work because im behind a firewall. at least, i hope im wrong. i would love to be able to download 1.6 and at elast play by myself with bots rather than have to wait till spring break to get steam to work.
this isnt just a firewall like dsl or somehting, this is a college blocking it, and does anyone know if steam can get by somehting like it? time to go to dinner and the bank and wal mart!Comment

steam works alright for me just slow, the servers don't always work, and i usually have to repair the whole thing because my maps somehow differ from the servers, this means waiting ages for platform.dll again, it would have been better if it ran like it was intended.
i know its a beta but is being slow a bug?Comment

curently... valve, file shack and file planet are hosting steam 2.0 content servers... i just noticed the file planet addition this morning.
to be honest i was playing 1.6 most of last night but now it seems to be having a few problems but there are still a 2000 ppl playing =)

I don't get why Valve should be mad at people who put up the client earlier. I mean, even if those people had waited, the same shit would have happened anyway. This is all Valves fault and no one elses.Comment

Well, then WHO is to blame for Leaking the STEAM client a few hours BEFORE it was officially released? THE SITES THAT VALVE HAD GIVEN PERMISSION TO PREVIEW IT!! THOSE are the sites at fault, maybe valve would of had it more under control if they didn't give sites like this the ability to PREVIEW IT... I am sure valve regret they let the "media" sites get a preview, it would of never been leaked before officially released.
Don't put the blame on those that are OFFERING their bandwidth for users to download steam, BLAME the SITES THAT LEAKED IT!!

Steam is working better today than thursday. I also noticed your crosshair dissapears on your pistol after using the shield, i hope that's a bug. de_airtrip seems like good map and I hope it finds its way onto the CAL rotation.Comment

I downloaded it and played by myself in a lan sever I created. I didn't have anyone to shoot at, but I observed the bullet patterns of the new guns against some walls. Is it just me or is valve actually trying to implement guns in CS that don't suck? I mean, the last four guns that were added are either worthless or a close contender: fiveseven, duals, sg550, ump. They two new riffles, especially the T one, look very promising. It's about time they actually added to the gameplay. GG valve, they may be dumb about not having enough bandwith, but if 1.6 turns out to be cool and they actually put some new guns in that are actually worth something, it will all be worth the wait in the end. I'm excited when I can actually try shooting at people with the new guns!
