The CS 1.6 BETA community is full of a lot of the core of the community that knows people, chats on irc, etc. explaining how they got SteamInstall.exe in the first place.



You think that would make the community not a festering pile of idiots, but it's quite the opposite. Casual CS'ers are so much better sometimes.
