    WON Master Servers Change

    Some people may have noticed the recent outages when trying to play Counter-Strike, have no fear. Eric Smith from VALVe has reported to the HLDS mailing lists about the change.
    The IP addresses for the Half-Life Master and Authentication servers have been changed. These changes shouldn't affect servers or clients unless the file "valve\woncomm.lst" has been edited to use IP addresses (which you should never need to do).
    Well you should never do, unless the DNS gets temporarily mapped wrong again.[break="click to see the new IPs"]The IP addresses for the servers have been changed to:

    half-life.east.won.net

    65.73.232.251

    half-life.central.won.net

    65.73.232.252

    half-life.west.won.net

    65.73.232.253

    Your "valve\woncomm.lst" file *should* have these entries:

    Auth

    {

    half-life.east.won.net:7002

    half-life.west.won.net:7002

    half-life.central.won.net:7002

    }

    Master

    {

    half-life.east.won.net:27010

    half-life.west.won.net:27010

    half-life.central.won.net:27010

    }

    That BS. I haven't edited mine and I couldn't connect. I've edited it now for the new IP's and it works ok.

              Couldn't you just delete your old list?

                They shouldn't have to be switched, genius of Middle Earth.

                      I want Eric Smith to report that they will release new information about Team Fortress 2.

                          Any delay is due to the dns being updated and that new setting being filtered down to your ISP. This can take different amounts of time for different ISPs, but it doesn't take long. If you have the default settings, your settings will automatically update shortly.

                            Hrm. My .lst file is correct and I can ping these servers and receive their new IP's correctly. Still not connecting to WON though. DOH

                              Edited by [user="99481"] @ [time="1045148573"]

                              Why do they tell us not to modify anything and to have trust in them?

                              I tried joining a server this morning, and murphys law is kicking in. I have NEVER had a problem authenticating....till now. I say to poop with what Erik says NOT TO DO. DO IT. Cause it looks like its working for others. And trusting in Valve and not doing any modification (eg: setting the ips) isn't working. I for one am disregarding Mr. Smiths reccomendation to not modify the woncomm.lst file. Cause I want to play cs. I suggest just backing up a copy of woncomm.lst somewhere before modifying it that way you can overwrite the modified copy once Valve gets off their a$$es and fixes the dns redirect correctly....

                              Lastly, why was the community informed at the last minute of this critical change? What ever happened to advanced notice so we could prepare? Dropping it in our laps at the last minute is a sign (to me at least) that sh!t is disorganized over at Valve....

                              UPDATE: I tried the ip thing, it worked once. Then I tried it again to confirm, no go. Either like the gentleman above stated, WON is down. Or and this is what I personally think is the case...the new host doesn't have enough bandwidth for everyone to authenticate...Guess this is a good reason why I don't play cs exclusively. Someone give us a shout when the auth servers start working. I'll be in BlackHawkDown for now....
