        fire up steam/cs

        join server

play round, observe you HAVE radar

die in round on purpose and early, so you have plenty of time to

hit ` and bring console down, switch to server list window

double click different server WHILE STILL DEAD

        play round, look, no radar

Does it have to be a different server? Cause it can happen when retrying/reconnecting to the same server, at least in 1.5

I don't get it. Why does Valve fix bugs, update, and support CS 1.6 beta? It's not even officially released yet!! The CS 1.6 that the people are playing right now is a leaked version... yet Valve acts like it's been officially released already and is asking people to send in bug reports? I don't get it!

Valve are n00bs tbh. Nearly everyone experienced player I know, knows that it happens when you have to type retry after connected for some reason. Eric is gonna have one full inbox by the end of today lol.

Actually it is released and has already been updated, they are just keeping it from official sites to prevent the content servers from being swamped by every CS player. Basically on the release day the servers overloaded with everyone trying to download from one source of game content with 500Mbit bandwidth, so they pulled the Steam beta 2.0 file until things settled down, and have been using the many thousands of players that have the beta file from intial release and from unofficial sites to do the bug testing. There are plenty of players for bug testing so they never "officially" re-released the file...

Helkite you dumbo, that's what a beta is - to report bugs - where the developers can then actively act on. It's on steam, so everyone can test the same new fix attempts instantly. And if it's just a 'leaked' version, then why did VALVe encourage users to continue testing it?

tbh, it's much easier to handle feedback on a smaller scale, whereas several hundred thousand people reporting a bug on a released (i.e. 1.5) version will just waste manhours reading the same bugs listed. And think of all the downtime if people have to upgrade their servers everyweek from downloading patches manually just to test bug fix attempts.

I can't believe that they are actually trying to fix this after all this time. This is one of those things that drives me nuts besides the reported fixing of the hitboxes that have been redone a few times. Well, there are other things but this is one of those things that should have been fixed quite some time ago.

Well, at least they are showing effort.

jjust a suggestion, but are there any files in CS that change or are re-run when you re-join a server??? cuz maybe a part of the file gets corrupted or overwritten, or sumtin. im not some Über tech geek so i dont know about that, just about customizing my CS. BTW, when i customized my radar (new .spr file) i dont get that bug any more. hope that helps, and g/l on fixing it Eric.

From the comments here, we're all pretty much in agreement that retrying especially during a map change can cause it. But what he's asking is if anyone can do it consistently (as in always) so they can finally figure out why it's happening. This is the sort of mind-numbing thing that real game testers have to spend their time doing. It would be interesting if Valve would make a job offer anyone able to do this, since even with the amount of time the game's been out and they've been working on it, their own guys don't know.

Did anyone try this and see if it worked? I seem to recall that I would lose the radar if I was dead at the time and the map changed, but I don't remember if it happened consistently and I unfortunately don't have time to try it out at the moment.
