Greece's regime is the of a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state. The fundamental principles of the regime are the following:
the principle of the sovereignty of the people through their representatives in the Chamber (democratic principle)
the principle of the rule of law
the principle of the social state
the principle of equality
the principle of human dignity
the principle of liberty (the protection of physical and personal liberty and the safeguarding of special individual rights laid down in special provisions).
the principle of separation of powers into executive, legislative and judicial.
Yes they are very close to the U.S., which is also not a Democratic society, but a Federal Republic.Comment

They are not a Democracy and Democracy had nothing to do with this. They didn't vote on it or anything.
First of all, as far as us laymen are concerned, greece is a democracy. democracy in the sense that the people elect their leaders in a system of voting.
technically, as the cia reports greece is aparliamentary republic; monarchy rejected by referendum 8 December 1974
But technically, the united states is afederal republic; strong democratic tradition
I guess you're right in saying that it doesn't have anything to do with a democray, but let's not be anal about it okay!
oops. i guess david was thinking the same thing i was.Comment

artemis... did you actually read the law? the english translations stated clearly that all public and private electronic gaming had been banned. I'm assuming you live in greece, I figured you'd be more up-to-it about this. The law stated that officals were unable to determine between a legiment legal game, and electronic gambling, therefore all electronic games were bannedComment

Wasn't being anal about. A Republic and a Democracy are two different things. One elects a representitive to vote for it while the other allows 1 vote for 1 person.

You could in theory have a person win each states electoral votes, and still not become President, because only some states require that the person that is in charge of casting the electoral votes votes for the party that won.Comment

You are speaking about direct democracy, which is used in small towns of New England and small states of Sweden. For all rational purposes, direct democracy doesn't exist.
A republic a a representative democracy.
The US is a republic, which is a type of a democracy. Thus, the US is a democracy.
In summary: wrong~! :)Comment

Yes, I read the law. It's been on the new and in papers for quite a while, as this has been a pending issue. Again, as asspennies did, you reiterate the law. I am aware of it, and I'm sure many of you have read summaries or even full translations of the law. I understand what it says. What I'm saying is, as a gamer, I can still buy and play video games. That's all I'm saying. A lot of things we do are minor infractions of the law. The main point of this law was to combat illegal gambling in public. It is not an attack on gaming. An on a side note, the president is merely a figure of state. Greece has a Prime Minister.
