I like when people (fantasychrono) put their personal achievements up to boost their self-esteem and seem smarter than everyone else. It's okay though, because he hid it well with his clever sense of humor and stunning wit!

Well, let's see, Pablo has a valid point in that how do u show loyalty to a game? if u define it as something u do every other week, then it 's an addiction. In this case, Addiction + loyalty draws a fine line. Its lame in a sense that exo uses games as some sort of thing u can be loyal to, when in fact gaming is nothing that jsut wasting/spending time to get out of the real world for that 2 or 3 hours. To make a game, esp. Computer Games a spectator sport is very difficult, and can u imagine the whole world staring at their screens looking at a group of 18 yr old kids staring into Their Screens killin a bunch of fools playin against them? i guess not.

However, Barney was just pointing out to u, Pablo, that u have just took the wrong examples! Spectator Sports have been around for millenia, and that Modern day American-Football is a deriative of Brit Rugby which came from soccer. And these may i add are (popular) spectator sports every since they were invented. So would u please refrain from flaming poor ol' barney and just attack the article?

Still, this is just the comments, n why cant u all be friends and make up?

I dont see how it is used in the wrong context.. I may not be as "smart" as some people here but if I say ksharp is loyal to 3d wouldnt that be in the right context?? So if I say I was a loyal "fan" of CS wouldn't that be right as well?
I tend to agree with you, I think that you can be loyal to the game. If you support the game and it's community (ex. by spreading the good word), I believe that it constitutes loyalty. If the dictionary doesn't specifically mention the word "CS or computer game" under it's subject, I don't think that makes the use of the word invalid.

Using the sports example, Dan Marino, formerly of the Miami Dolphins, stayed with the team when he could have probably got himself traded to a team that had a better chance of winning the super-bowl. But instead of moving, he opted to keep trying with Miami and retired from the Dolphins without a ring despite the fact that he is one of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history.

Some say that Ray Bourque was "disloyal" to Boston because he went to Colorado at the end of his career (after spending all of it in Boston) to play for a team that had an excellent chance of winning the Stanley Cup. I think he deserved it, and, if Marino had of done the same, I would have agreed with that to. My point is, most people would agree that these are issues that encompass "loyalty" to some degree, but the dictionary doesn't include "hockey, football or even sports" under their definition of "loyalty". Once again, does this invalidate the use of the word "loyalty"? I think not.

Ok. Your sarcastic comment relating to Ben Frankling's batting average and the Pilgrims field goal kicker implies that you don't believe that games like football and baseball have been played for the past couple of hundred years. First of all, I think Exo was using some exaggeration when he said that they had been around for centuries, but that's beside the point.

I guess I don't really agree that he is referring to only spectator sports, since he isn't saying that gaming is a full-out spectator sport yet.

Another time when you obviously didn't make a an argument, at least one that made sense, against something narby said.

Does anyone else find this argument to be ridiculous? Not only does your brain work in a very strange way, it doesn't even work right. You can't possibly compare a loyalty to CS to a loyalty to your family. Just because there are different levels of loyalty doesn't mean you can say that you can't use the word in connection with a game based on one stupid analogy.

Example: I do not enjoy playing other CT/Terrorist based games, because I am loyal to Counter-Strike.

To say that this isn't true simply because you think that loyalty is something very deep and emotional is absurd.

And of course CS is a product. You can't just change the facts to fit your argument... I really could go on and on, but I've typed a novel already.

          Umm.. ok. How about this?

          That to was to narby.

Go look up "contradiction" in the dictionary, you might find it's meaning useful to you as you flame people in the future, at least that way the only negative thing about you will be your stupidity.
"Ok. Your sarcastic comment relating to Ben Frankling's batting average and the Pilgrims field goal kicker implies that you don't believe that games like football and baseball have been played for the past couple of hundred years."

i already covered this many times, so if you want a response go look at my old posts

"First of all, I think Exo was using some exaggeration when he said that they had been around for centuries, but that's beside the point."

that is entirely the point, idiot. what did you think I was making fun of.

"I guess I don't really agree that he is referring to only spectator sports, since he isn't saying that gaming is a full-out spectator sport yet."

in that paragraph he was talking about how gaming is becoming more and more a spectator sport. come on, read the god damn article before you call me names.

"Another time when you obviously didn't make a an argument, at least one that made sense, against something narby said."

it doesn't make sense because you refuse to try to understand. conflicts are resolved when both sides try to see the other's point of view. maybe you should try it some time.

"Example: I do not enjoy playing other CT/Terrorist based games, because I am loyal to Counter-Strike.

To say that this isn't true simply because you think that loyalty is something very deep and emotional is absurd. "

good example, but you are jumping to conclusions again. you do not ejoy playng other ct/t games because you "prefer" (note that word) cs, not because you are loyal to it. that is like saying you don't like the taste of vanilla because you are loyal to chocolate. exchange "are loyal to" with "prefer" and it makes sense.

"And of course CS is a product. You can't just change the facts to fit your argument... I really could go on and on, but I've typed a novel already."

Novel -- A fictional prose narrative of considerable length, typically having a plot that is unfolded by the actions, speech, and thoughts of the characters.

          indeed you have

"Go look up "contradiction" in the dictionary, you might find it's meaning useful to you as you flame people in the future, at least that way the only negative thing about you will be your stupidity."

jesus christ. for the last time, I am not talking about spectator sports' existances!!!! did you read that?? I am not talking about spectator sports' existances!!!

what I am talking about is how the sport is run. SPORTS ARE RUN DIFFERENT NOW THEN FROM 400 YEARS AGO. please tell me of a tournament held by these rugby guys held 500 years ago BROADCAST TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, with stats of each player being taken down and playing styles analyzed. see what I mean?

barney attacked me, not the other way around. I never flamed barney, and I would just love to see you try to find a quote of me doing so.

                    pablo's anti-loser-ness is very amusing.

"I'm too cool for CS but I'm arguing with CS players on a CS website"

Personally, I have more respect for narby, because he actually does something positive like makes maps for the rest of us to play. Sure, some people might say that aztec is a burning piece of shit, but still, its better than any of them can do. He freely admits that he likes this game, he enjoys this game, and that he is addicted to this game.

I find that the loser that denies hes a loser is the bigger loser

i agree with you. it is friday where I am, and so I am wasting my time away on the comp, because I get barely any time on the weekdays. and you obviously know that the best way to waste time is to have an argument. as for calling me a loser, I think you are a bigger one than me, because you are simply falling behind narby, like every other person who has posted in this debate, without giving the matter much thought. hell, you even write in your post that you support narby because he made aztec. hell, I'll bet you don't even know what we're talking about.

                        Then I guess it depends on the dictionary you're using, doesn't it? Mine (New Webster's Dictionary of the English Language) says;

loy-al - adj. faithful to any person whom fidelity is owed// faithful in allegiance to the government of one's country// personally devoted to a sovereign or ruler// displaying fidelity.

Mine doesn't say anything about "Faithful to a person, ideal, custom, cause, or duty. Of, relating to, or marked by loyalty."

So, does this make my dictionary wrong?? Again, I think not. Maybe you need a more encompassing dictionary, my friend. According to my dictionary, you could say that CS has become a "custom" to some of these people, and , therefore, it could fall under your dictionary's description of loyalty.

You're saying to be loyal in your words: ``requires a high duty or authority to be loyal to''

                          Uhh, no.

You can be loyal to anything, if you buy a lot of coke you can be said to be loyal to that brand. If you watch the simpsons every week you are a loyal viewer to the show.

                          loy·al·ty Pronunciation Key (loil-t)

                          n. pl. loy·al·ties

-The state or quality of being loyal. See Synonyms at fidelity.

-A feeling or attitude of devoted attachment and affection. Often used in the plural: My loyalties lie with my family.

``A feeling or attitude of devoted attachment and affection.''

People who love the game, are said to be loyal to it.

Yes I think we learned something here captain douchebag.
"You can be loyal to anything, if you buy a lot of coke you can be said to be loyal to that brand. If you watch the simpsons every week you are a loyal viewer to the show."

WRONG. According to you, you can be loyal to a piece of sh*t, a used car, one of your pubic hairs, etc...

If you watch the simpsons every week, that does not mean that you are loyal to the show. It means you like the show, or enjoy the show. You can't be loyal to it, because it's a tv show.

"A feeling or attitude of devoted attachment and affection"

do you truly understand what that definition is saying? let's look at each key word.

                          af·fec·tion Pronunciation Key (-fkshn)

                          n.

A tender feeling toward another; fondness. See Synonyms at love.

Feeling or emotion. Often used in the plural: an unbalanced state of affections.

A disposition to feel, do, or say; a propensity.

                          Obsolete. Prejudice; partiality.

                          at·tach·ment Pronunciation Key (-tchmnt)

                          n.

The act of attaching or the condition of being attached.

Something, such as a tie, band, or fastener, that attaches one thing to another.

A bond, as of affection or loyalty; fond regard.

                          feeling--

Perception by or as if by touch; sensation: a feel of autumn in the air.

The sense of touch: a surface that is rough to the feel.

An act or instance of touching or feeling.

Vulgar. An act or instance of sexual touching or fondling.

The nature or quality of something as perceived by or as if by the sense of touch: "power steering that seems overassisted, eliminating road feel" (Mark Ginsburg).

Overall impression or effect; atmosphere: "gives such disparate pictures... a crazily convincing documentary feel" (Stephen King).

Intuitive awareness or natural ability: has a feel for decorating.

none of those seem to be the kinds of things associated with cs. loyalty is something deep. it is not just some shallow preference, and that is why I was pissed when he used it. loyalty is something hard to find, and hard to create. these people are just addicted

"So, does this make my dictionary wrong?? Again, I think not. Maybe you need a more encompassing dictionary, my friend. so you are saying counter-strike falls under the same catorgory as, say, Christmas? I doubt it. cs is game, or an addiction. it will never be deserving of loyalty, because it has no meaning. it is just a thing, like a plant or a fishing rod.
