    de_quarry Update

Narby's site has been updated with some new pictures of de_quarry, a map he is currently working on. This time the pictures are shown with daytime lighting and a new placeholder skybox. These are very early screenshots, but it's fun to be able to watch this map evolve. Click over to Barney's site for the rest of the information and the screenshots.

In case you don't know: Narby is the mapper of aztec, inferno, vertigo, thunder & airstrip. He also has a couple of Day of Defeat maps that should appear in DoD 4.0 very soon. Check out his site for all the info.

Update by rizzuh @ 8:19 PST: Barney has updated his site with new shots that show details of the map in progress.

I know this isn't Counter-Strike related, but the screenshots of Barney's new DoD maps look great. dod_chemille & dod_bunker should be in DoD 4.0 which I'm guessing will be out on Steam in a week or two. And while I'm on the topic: The DoD map that 3D-Mike(de_survivor) was collaborating on, dod_stuka, was cut from DoD 4.0 today... if anyone cares.

Those screenshots of daylight de_quarry look reallly good ...nice images of the sky contrasting with the map colours and lights on the building.Definitely would look better as evening time.

...as CS started to become Narby-Strike...

Map looks dull. Not a criticism - dullness at this stage is due to the immaturity of the map. I have little doubt that n@rby will add much more contrast and colour later on (because, despite what everyone says, CS really does feel better with some childish colour).

Although it may have been a mistake publicising this map so early in the development. I always find it puts lots of pressure on to deliver - something I'm not keen on, but that's just a personal thing.

Looking forward to some more exciting shots - the map would be great with light bursting over the (warm-brown) dirt heaps, with some cooler (very contrasting flourescent blue) lighting and (metal) structure indoor, visible from the outside.

That looks real good, even if those are temporary textures. Also, don't forget to consider rain! I guess rain would only fit well in the nighttime map though...

oh, and will you unofficially release ns_romana anyways? i know you said it didnt play as good as you hoped, but hey, you never know, it could be a sleeper hit!

                    but anyways, looks great!

oh and the sky looks great with that map - it makes it have kind of a ghost town feeling or the kind of calm sky youd see in the midwest before a tornado struck.

Oh and Dave, Im pretty sure after narby gets his conveyers and other models in, his map will look a lot better, even though it looks nice right now.

Would it be possible to work this into an AS_ map? We need more of those. They are hard to make... Oilrig is probably the only evenly balanced AS_ map followed by maybe Highrise. Maybe it could be something like the Terrorists are radicals who want to destroy the quarry which is helping to damage the ozone layer, and the VIP is hte owner of the quarry and the CTs have to escort him to safety...

edit: i spelled ghost town wrong :\

Yeah, I've been using the lights from havana for internal stuff (not sure if you can see it in any of those screens) and some bright white lights on the outside. These will be a little more effective at night, but don't look too bad during the day either.

Things will flesh out when the models are added, and once the internal areas are tackled.

I've been considering doing an AS map recently, but not with this one.

the map looks awesome as it is... if thats just temporary, its going to be a kickass looking map. don't forget to add a random lamppost tho, it wouldnt be a narby map without it.
