We've got to start somewhere my friend, but in any event a name is just a name. The CPL has a name that sounds pretty big, but they had to start from a beginning. Also like you, from 7inchtaint.com - you must've started from somewhere, right? :)
How legendary could they be if it is their first LAN? D:
I know that it's all in good humor here, but let's put things into perspective, folks.Comment

1. Yes, we are planning to have events every other month. You'll eventually get to come!
2.The details page is being updated today with more info, but just so you know, the event is at:
The Elks Lodge
887 South Main Street
Attleboro, MA 02703
You should be able to gather generic directions at the moment from http://maps.yahoo.com/ using that address.
Thanks, and I hope this helps!

sorry, but yeah, I think 30 dollars is a bit expensive for 1 day. You either have to be getting screwed on location, or electricity, or both. Then again, giving away Xboxes as prizes.... I think thats cool.
Anyways, I run a 175-250 player lan in the washington dc area, (6 events, only getting bigger) and we charge 30 dollars for the whole weekend. (6pm friday till sunday afternoon) But, we then charge 20dollars for them to sign up to the cs cash tourney. 16 teams, 5v5.
but, its a byoc tourney, as we don't feel like its worth the extra hassle to manage standardised machines. We use wwcl, or other effective anticheats, which covers the only "cheats" that can be effective at a lan, which would be unfair config variables.
Anyways, no offense, I just couldn't imagine hauling all my gear someplace for just a 15hour lan@ $30.... I would just go to one of the gaming cafe's around....Comment

Go to LAN Party.com and you'll see many events that charge $25 to $30 for a one day event.

I respect your opinion, though I still am confused on how you think $30 is such a bad price for a one day event. You have lan parties that have 175-250 people at them - and so you charge $15 a day, right?
So that means you collect between $5250-$7200 for the weekend. Not bad. However, if you max out on your CS tournament (80 people) you are in reality charging those tournament players a total of $50 for an extra gain of $1600 over what I mentioned above.
That'll probably pay for your expenses for a location for 2 days.
That is: $50*80 people = $4000/2 = $2000 a day/80 people = $25 a head.
So if you boil it down to LANLegends size, specs and figures of the LAN Party, you are charging $25 a day for 80 people - and $5 less is no biggee for you because you have 95-170 other people paying for your other expenses.
So all told, it is not much of a difference you and I - you just have more people.
Your advantage is what would be called 'Economies of Scale', and I'm trying to get there!
Also if you are not paying for real foodage, you must be pulling in a mint.
Now let's just go back to LANLegends:
I'm charging $30 for between 65-90 people. I'm expecting around 65 minimum. Everyone can join into the CS tournament if they so choose. If LANLegends maxes out with 65 people and I do a 5vs5 tourney, that's $1950 - $1000 of which goes toward XBOXs or some other equivalent prize + more for 2nd, 3rd place + the winning prizes for the other 2 tournaments I intend to have that same day. I am not skimping on prizes, people! What does that leave me with? Just enough to pay for the room and food (less than 950, if I do not give away prizes to anyone else except the first placers on the CS tourney). Electricity is not an issue. I'm lucky to be leaving the day with $50 when all is said and done - and I know I won't! As you can see, I'm not doing it for the money! My main goal is for people to have fun and to help grow a community of gamers who like to have a blast.
Also: Managing tournament machines is by far easier than having to deal with upset people wondering if cheaters just took away their money/prize.
It's great that you have a good location. You must also have a good deal with food and electricity by far, and also have enough patrons to not have to deal with as much advertising, either.Comment
