    Massachusetts LAN

LANLegends is holding their first official LAN Party on Saturday, May 25th in Attleboro, MA from 9 A.M. to 12 A.M. The pre-registration cost is $30 (that includes drinks and pizza) a lá Pay Pal, so save your pocket change kids. Speaking of which, if you're under the age of 18 your parent(s) must be in the company of the LANLegends staff and must sign the terms and conditions sheet handed to them at the door. For a list of what to bring, and all of the other particulars, point your mouse to the LANLegends web site here. All tournaments (Counter-Strike and other [obviously inferior] games as well) will be 4v4 double elimination-style with a prize that is yet TBA. LANLegends predicts that they will be able to hold 75-90 participants.

Anyone who has attended a LAN Party knows they are a ton of fun, so round up your team, clear your calendars for the 25th of May, and register here. It's still quite a while off, but good luck to those who participate!

            .... 30 dollars for a 15hour lanparty???? errrr.... 4v4? ;/

If it was maybe a serious tournament lan, maybe, but it doesn't even look like it *could* be.

            no thanks

No problem. LANLegends will have a 'bring your own machine area and ALSO will have 16 machines that are to be used exclusively for the tournaments, so it is not like joe blow and don juan can play the tournament games on their own machines. The gaming rigs are not only standardized, but are also 'locked down' for people that have a propensity for cheating. Finally, the machines will be on their own network, completely separate from the 'bring your own computer' area.

So I'm curious: What in your opinion do you consider a tournament to be a 'serious tournament'? There are a ton of 1 day events taht are $30 out there. The reason why is because the ones that host the event have to pay expenses! Does the event have to be $25 instead of $30? It's not like LANLegends can have 90 people sitting this event in someones backyard and charge $10 a head...Also - does your serious tournament have to have an 8v8 game to be considered 'real'? Why couldn't you take your clan an seperate them into 2 squads? You'd have 2x the chance your clan could win, or better yet - win both 1st and 2nd place!

              I don't think that's a bad deal, do you?

Please, I welcome your comments. I am curious to know what you think.

5v5 is the standard for counter-strike league play. 2v2 comes in at a distant second.

Well, LANLegends definitely has enough machines to do this, though I think at that point we wouldn't be able to give the 1st place winners XBOX machines...which is what we were seriously considering. I'll have to talk with the others from my group and see what we can do...

So the question is: Do 5vs5 and forget the XBOXs for 1st prize, or go 4vs4 and get the XBOXs?

Thank you for your input. How does everyone else feel about this? Should I go league play or not?

A better Question: Does winning a prize even matter, or do you get a rush just for winning the tournament?

if the 4v4 prize is Xbox then stick with that.

The CS Nation person who posted this for me only named the news article Massachusetts LAN to better get people's idea of where the event is located.

This LAN Party is called LANLegends. Go to www.lanlegends.com for more information on the event.

Since this event was posted here, we are now looking into doing the CS tournament 5vs5 instead of our proposed 4vs4 since - it seems - people tend to be used to their tournaments 5vs5. This unfortunately may be at the cost of a lesser prize to the winners (because the number of prizes rises from 12 to 15 per tournament = more $$ needed to buy prizes). We are talking with new sponsors to see what kind of gadgets we can pick up from them. More news as it happens!
