I have a few AdminMod stories I could tell, but I'll save you guys the boredom. I used to play pubs extensively, and I was an admin on a large server until we got shutdown for using too much bandwidth.

I think that the best admin tactic is to stay anonymous. I tried this myself for a while, but as our server's popularity grew, however, some of the regular players caught on to my slappage of OGCers. Eventually we had so many regulars playing that I couldn't login without getting, "OMG, its stooopid. Admin in the hizouse!" Or something...

...which brings me to the point of my post: CS can cause rage. I personally like rage because I am bored, but many CS players do not. It can ruin their CS game, especially if they don't want to go to LAN parties or conventions where cheats and racial slurs are uncommon. To solve this, there should be a way of telling if there is an admin on. Thus, angry players know whether anyone is listening or even cares when they spam, "

i agree with admin-mod being useless and VERY open to abuse, but i would like to mention something noone else has:

      FRIENDLY FIRE SERVERS!

on FF servers, yes kids, many ppl do like FF servers, admin-mod is the BEST way (shy of a real admin) to police a server for TKers at spawn, or team wounders.

if u run an FF server, the 'ATAC' plugin is a must!

i have a sweet custom AS map on my server: as_ghetto. no one sticks around to play it though: it requires too much team work for either side to win i guess. i like to play small maps on small servers. 20 person servers are too chaotic for team work or effective voice com and I'm too cheap to pay for the bandwidth. i feel lucky that i have a group of regulars on my server who understand and enjoy the challenge of teamwork and friendly fire. that is probably the main reason i still play CS after 2.5 years. i like being able to provide my homies and respectful noobs a place to hang, frag and learn.

          admin abuse! oh no!

I am an admin and I will slap, slay, ban or abuse anyone I damn well please.

Most of these mental midgets who go to a public server deserve an old fashion ass whoopin. I would much rather deal with an abusive admin who will sooner than later find out the server will be empty if you keep the crap up. It's the godamn haxors who infest this game and destroy a really good game, not admin abuse

You can get AMX. Has the amx_who command. Says if they have admin capabilities, but not what they have.

but the whole point of being an admin is not to screw around with the non-cheaters but the real H4x0rs. by messing with people to mess with them you ruin the whole part of the game. the fun factor.

As for WC3, I think it's fun. After playing this game for like 3 years, it's about time a change came along. It's not that big of a deal, and if you don't like it, don't play it.
About time a change came along? So apparently you think CS in the early beta days was the same as CS1.5 or 1.6b is? There's been a LOT of change over these past 3 years. Regardless, while I hate the WC3 mod, I don't mind its existance so long as it's mentioned in the server name so I can avoid it.

Admin mod is 110% useless and shouldn't be used, period. If you can't trust your admins with rcon you can't trust them at all. As for the voting thing there is a votemap command built in to CS.
I disagree on both counts. Admin mod allows for some nice control over players, and some fun features. Not everyone is a die-hard "only the defaults!" type of player, and it's rather foolish to somehow act as if your view of CS should be forced onto all players. I may hate fy_iceworld as a general rule, but that doesn't mean I think no one should be allowed to play it, or that there's anything wrong with it. Learn some damn tolerance.

As far as voting, how many CS players have a clue how to use their console to do a votemap? I think in all the time I've played CS, I may have seen that actually be successful ONE TIME ever. Usually it's impossible to get the required votes, because so many people don't know how to use votemap.

On top of that, there's several things you can vote for that aren't map related. In general I try to only play on servers where admin_vote_kick has been enabled. Sure, some stupid players attempt to abuse it some, but overall it lets the players kick out the obvious cheaters, and keeps the server operating smoothly even when an admin can't be around.

They should give an option in cs where you can death match like in quake 3 or something. Where everyone can fight each other. That would be cool. Like a every man for himself.

It's actually pretty useful for helping out new players. You know, binding their ~ to their console, for instance, or adjusting their cl_cmdrate so you can actually discern what they're attempting to say over voicecom.

Yes, I was an admin for a while, too. We'd sometimes do "CS Happy Hour" with disco mode, low gravity, or whatever while playing maps like de_vegas, but then things went back to normal after that. It gives players a break from the normal routine, and some players would show up just for that light-hearted play. Then we'd all go back to serious play when it was over, and it was good.

Love it or hate it, admin mod is here to stay.

Because in "comments" topics are pre-defined. There are "forums," just not at this site. Go post on "forums" if you want to talk about something else.

vote kick is useless. The "retry" command gets you back in the server before the next round even starts. I have been abused by admins more times then I have seen an admin handle situations in a fair or correct manner. And 90% of the time it is with some 13 year old punk fooling around with all his new admin mod commands fresh at his fingertips. For straight CS action there is absolutely no need for admin mod. If you like those plugins that make it so you can run around like an idiot shooting fireballs and going invisible (war3, gamble plugin, any server running amx) then by all means play on those servers. But i fucking hate how every server under the sun uses admin mod when they just don't need it.

Nighthawk: perhaps players don't want their "~" button rebinded. Maybe they like it how it is, bound to whatever they set it to themselves. Same for cmdrate. I don't need admins going around setting up my CS controls so that it's comfortable for them - "Hey.. you're using the arrow controls? That's bad, lemme rebind that and now you can use your WASD keys to move!"

Ah, unbindall has been removed from execclient for AdminMod? That's great, now remove anything related to cl_*, sensitivity, brightness... just about every single command that exists. Execclient's potential benefits are pale compared to its potential for abuse.

I agree with Mike: admin_vote_kick is useless. Someone who knows they're going to be kicked can just bind their movement keys to kick someone else (so others cannot votekick the person). If they are kicked, the magical "retry" button works wonders, no? Of course you also get people who abuse the votekick when someone gets a headshot. gg hax.
