using an interp lower than .1 doesent increase YOUR accuracy, it increases the accuracy of the game, so you get the actual position of a player.. this makes the game abit less random, and requires you to actually hit your enemy in order to kill him,.

Read that. I'll give you an excerpt:
bds wrote..Read this next one carefully, alex:
ex_interp
The much debated and dreaded cvar which has tons of myths around it. In Half-Life 1.5 the best value to use for ex_interp is default, 0.1. That is because of a small bug (on both the client and server) that affected how the interp was factored into the client and sent to the server (and because of that how it was factored into the lag compensation amount by the server). This lead to the 0.1 fudge factor being introduced which did an ok job at minimizing this bug. It worked best with ex_interp set to 0.1.
bds wrote..I noticed the word "inaccuracy" in there. I also noticed it coming before "interp set to something else than 0.1."
With the old bug you could get up to half of a players bounding box inaccuracy and even higher with ex_interp set to something else than 0.1.
The HL netcode sucks, it's really sad that mods like metamod simply hooking into it screw up the hitboxes. Unfortunately, we're stuck with it until CS2 comes out, but maybe valve can (and it looks like they will) patch it up a tad in 1.6.
I apologize in advance for tearing this post apart, it's going to be really long. I hope I wasn't really disrespectful or anything.

WWCL - WWCL blocks commands like cl_bob and cl_bobup, but what for? How in the hell could those commands possibly give an unfair playing field?
Tech N9ne wrote..You can abuse them. You can make pitch black corners just become dark green with a high enough gamma.
Another issue with it, is it locks stuff like brightness and gamma and what not. It may be possible to abuse these commands, I don't know
Tech N9ne wrote..This sounds kind of silly, but if you lock your fps_max at a certain setting, you can bunnyhop. Seriously. And no, it doesn't lower your fps even more. If you are really worried about framerates, use vsync.
And what's the deal with locking fps_max? some people have shitty graphics cards that cant go above 30, and here WWCL has it locked at 101. Last i checked, that can sometimes lower your fps even more.
Tech N9ne wrote..You know what else you could use a search engine for? Finding cheats. Wait, isn't getting around WWCL a cheat? That is like justifying bomb making by saying, "Even though the public library doesn't let me get a bomb making manual, I can find one on the internet. So the library needs to stock bomb making manuals"
I understand WWCL blocks stupid shit like interp and whatever the command is for "whitewalls" and stuff like that, but really, if anyone wanted to bypass that, all they have to do is search for it on yahoo and they will find a way to get any commands to work. So really, what good is WWCL now? The legit people who don't use interp are possibly handicapped by things such as brightness, when any newbie can go to a search engine and make WWCL completely useless, and start "config hacking."
Tech N9ne wrote..We don't know if it 'locks interp.' What valve is going to do in the final release of 1.6 is still speculation. If valve fixes the exploits caused by commands, then sure, get rid of WWCL.
I don't know about you, but I think all this shit needs to go, come 1.6/1.7. 1.6 locks interp and shit like that, so WWCL will just be a handicap to certain people and the other people will be playing fine.
Tech N9ne wrote..That's also correct. Yet baseball players all have different bodies, so should we allow certain ones to use steroids to 'level the playing field' and not 'handicap' them? You make it as fair as you can, banning things that you feel can be exploited and are detrimental to the game.
All in all, there is no "level playing field" because people have different systems. Therefore all WWCL really does to this day is handicap certain people and let other people play the way the game was meant to be played.
Tech N9ne wrote..VAC is horrible. The only time it ever catches cheaters is right after it updates. Cheating Death simply stopped ALL hacks from working, COMPLETELY. The only ones that managed to bypass it were the ones who cracked the CD auth code.
Also, VAC is a much better selection for anti-cheat. Cheating-Death did good in 1.3 but it's not half as good as VAC.
Tech N9ne wrote..You have more time to react. .1 interp is like seeing a guy come around a corner in real life, whereas .05 interp is more like the guy holding a dummy of himself in front of him coming around the corner.
Also, on another note, I've tried "interp hacking" before, and if anything, it was not helping me at all, wrather decreasing my skill. Maybe other people have better luck with it, but from me and my friends trying it out, it appears to give the person using it a disadvantage. I don't quite see how having the hitboxes "lag" (if i should use that term), would help, other than if you have horrible aim and just spray alot, but even then I don't see it helping. Either way you have to aim for a particular spot, so really it would just be the same anyways wouldn't it?
