The San Francisco (treat!) Chronicle's site has an interesting study up. They claim action-based video games "improve a person's visual perception".
I don't understand why researchers are wasting their time with this, but I suppose it could be valuable in the future.. well no actually I don't. Develop your own opinions.
Researchers at the University of Rochester found that young adults who regularly played video games full of high-speed car chases and blazing gun battles showed better visual skills than those who did not. For example, they kept better track of objects appearing simultaneously and processed fast-changing visual information more efficiently. It's not like nobody saw this coming. I think it's safe to say video games constantly work reflexes to a level higher than a normal person's (because gamers definitely aren't normal).
