suppose i just want a map to be believable thats all. since i really want to get right into the game, thinking im actually in it, not sitting at my computer while some coloured triangles are drawn on the screen by my video card etc etc. i find the game so much more enjoyable when i believe im actually in a real place (torn, survivor, piranesi), unfortuantely, dust1/2, aztec, current inferno, cobble, dont give me the feeling im in the game, but more like im playing a computer game. its just me, shame the majority of csers dont think like i do :*(
This issue has come up a few times, and should be explained. Yes, CS is a Counter-Terrorism game and yes, it is, to a certain extent, realistic. However, realism doesn't always equal fun, especially in such a fast paced game cs is. The maps have to cope with 2 things: The limitations of the HL engine, and good gameplay. The latter being the most important thing above all.

Sure, a map that looks nice and real is preferable but a lot of past attempts have proven that they're generally disliked because the gameplay is so disjointed. Perhaps with CS2 level designers will be able to make maps that can encompass the larger areas needed for better gameplay AND the levels of detail to convey realism.

you know i think i have an explanation why some of u are getting 1fps (or there abouts) in a map. ive noticed when CS starts auto-waypointing (waypoints are those points on a map that help the BOT navigate through the map), the fps drops to unity like u described. auto-waypointing is done only once per map, and so if u have a new custom map, first tmie you load it, it gets auto-waypointed. thing is, first time i loaded survivor, it was fine.

and the list u give for the maps that work, dont work for me.

people like you are the problem. stop complaining ffs. cant u wait one or two days for the problem to be fixed? whats the point in whining about it.

ive heard you preach that many times before, i fully agree with you. who am i to argue. im just dissapointed (and im sure many custom mappers are as well, 3dmike, ginseng, etc etc) that the cs community prefers less realistic maps and more arena type maps like ive said. i hope the new look to inferno will change how i think about it. and on aztec, the rain and fog adds SO much to the map, ignoring the fps drop, which i know pisses you off so much for idiots mentioning that and not how much it makes the atmoshphere on aztec seem that much more believabe. whose idea was it btw to include all those weather effects on aztec?

your other map comrade i think is excellent, atmospheric, really feels like youre playing it for a reason rather than for 'frags'.

now if only on aztec you would be bombing things other than arbitrary bomb sites. have u ever seriously considered giving the bomb sites a purpose, obviously without altering current layout, but just to make the Ts feel they are bombing something meaningful.

i know the engine is limited, lol, ive mapped before so im sort of aware. and its fascinating to see how the mappers cope with all the limitations imposed, and some of the results that can arise can be amazing. i particularly admire the texturing in any map, they hide low brush detail extremely well.

your map airstrip, i think, is the type of map i want to see more in cs. its far from the deathmatch arena-type i hate and has real ambience about it. i was really annoyed to read how people started slagging it off straight away saying 'it sucks' etc etc. then again, the world would be a startange place if no one started slagging off new cs versions right away.

It was all valve code, I simply added an entity to the map. Aztec was chosen because it was being updated already and it has thunder/stormy effects currently in it.

yuo mention that a good looking map doesnt always play well. agreed, sometimes the mapper may get carried away. de_deadlock anyone? but the maps ive mentioned, survivor, torn, piranesi, ive had great games on them, you could even say 'memorable'.

I never said a good looking map didn't play well, I said realism doesn't always equal fun.

Image if Dust was the exact same size and layout, except based in a city block where all the walls were detailed houses and there were curved bits and railings etc. It would conform to peoples idea of a "realism" map AND have excellant gameplay.

As engines improve, the maps will get much more pleasing to look at. One of Counter-Strike's biggest selling points is, that it can be played on most people's system.

i would prefer dust to be that same city block type map.

why doesnt davej make the map a bit more detailed.

dust was an early map and d2 was kinda geared towards match play

survivor "works" but goes around 1fps, i hear this with other people as well. It's unplayable. And it's not my machine. I have a 3.06ghz pentium4 + gf4 ti.
This could be a BOT-related issue that the neweset STEAM supports. I also had a hard time when I played with my custom map in STEAM for the first time, somehow after STEAM analyzed my map for 5 or 7 minute(You can see a bar of progress) I could finally play with BOTS. The BOTS are kinda very human-like(yeah, truly), so I had a so much fun with a custom map.

                                Well, who knows?-_-

One more thing, how can I "analyze" my map in STEAM?

In he first custom map I played, somehow STEAM automatically initiated "analyzing" the new map. However, when I try this with the maps in CSCENTRAL Map Pack. It seems that it only gives me 1 fps forever.

                                -_-)a
