Amazing how they concern themselves more on how the game looks than it is played. You'd think they would take the time and balance the game and remove some of the bugs before making a new (horrifyingly ugly) knife model with (better than the original) animations.
Seriously... what is VALVe thinking... it's like they want 12yr olds to be attracted to a game rated for Mature people...

well if i understand correctly what youre saying, youre wondering why far away servers ping higher than close ones? well the further away the server is, the more nodes the data has to pass through. nodes such as routers, bridges, gateways, switches, repeaters, regenerators, amplifiers, protocol converters, electronic-optical-electronic converters, buffers etc.
lol i thought it be only fair for me to say something considering the steam topic has 400+ comments.... how come on dedicated servers that are close to me i get 30-40 ping but far awa servers i get 300 and 56k gets same ping on all servers... (i have cable not 56k)
sometimes i wonder if i should run 56k on west coast servers and cable on east
now 56k will get roughly the same ping if the server is VERY far away. but generally east coast to west is about 80ms travel time, with dallas in between at 40ms. so for you (cable) the total trip time will be the 80ms cross country link PLUS the latency you get BEFORE you reach your ISP (which can be anything depending how good your isp is, 10-100ms).
clear now?
in comparison to 56k, the only thing in dialup connections which adds such a high latency is the network before the ISP. after that, all data is aggregated into a single ATM based network where cable or dialup data is moving at same speed. so again, depending on how good the 56k users isp is, his latency could be 80ms+isp delay (say 150ms).Comment
