    "de_aztec (1.5): average FPS = 99

    CS 1.5 Screenshots

    de_aztec (1.6, weather effects = 0 --> "off"): average FPS = ~40-50

    CS 1.6 Beta Screenshots

that is a decrease by over 50% in the new versions alone, without any of the weather effects! with the effects its average FPS = ~30-45fps
    "

Oh crap...... if that's right then I'd be on....er..... -10FPS give or take 5..... O_o

as a side note.... I quite like that new knife now.... it's got a certain something...... then again, I'm the sort of person that makes their Glock look like gold 'Castor Troy' pistols....... still, that knife ain't o bad now I've had a proper decent lok at it rather then the 2 second glance before.

Pharlap thanks for pointing out that my host went down for all of 30 seconds.

Gigantic font size, CS 1.6 beta
yes because when using 1600x1200 the game takes up 200% if your screen....oh wait.

scale that image down to your desktop resolution to get an accurate idea on how the font looks in game. but you already knew that. For example look at my last CS 1.5 1600x1200 shot, before i scaled it down the text was easy as hell to read, but that's because you're looking at a 1600x1200 shot on a 1024x768 desktop. if i changed my desktop resolution to 1600x1200 and didn't scale the image down at all it would be just as tiny.

ps the text in CS 1.6 scales to your in game resolution so no matter what resolution you use it looks the same.

      1024x768 in game with text

I know...it's kind of hard to make anything out in that shot, even the map it's on, because the text takes up most of the screen. it's really unplayable. .Sorcerer. you're probably just use to the old CS 1.5 font being so god damn small past 800x600.

I get the same FPS in both... maybe you're just weird.

Hmmm, the possibilities for in-game advertisement are endless (especially via Steam). Think of personalized ads, or a CS trial version (where the individual player would see a map all plastered with ads). The ad content could be exchanged at runtime, and so on... Imagine the hostages looking like some celeb, and when "using" them, they wouldn't say "Let's get outter here!" but "Drink Coca Cola!". Wouldn't that be great, huh? Heck, I'm frightening myself, I'll go hide under my bed now.

Er, you just quoted me quoting someone else, not me myself..... Me thinks you got a) the wrong end of the stick and b) the wrong person.

Wow was that confusing for 3:30......

Maybe I'm not paranoid enough, but I can't see why they would do this...bad business move.

The reasons for steam are to cut costs for software distro and provide a efficient way to patch and update. Why wouldn't I use steam to buy games...right now - you can't really back up the games that you have.

example: last night when I went to log on steam asked me to put my password in again and wouldn't accept it. After trying many times to change the password with my 'favorite color' I had to give up and start a new account - re-downloading all the updates again.

What if I had paid for the games that I had downloaded??? Would I have called valve or the game makers?? I'm curious about how they will work around issues like this.

I agree with you about the reasons for steam, but why shouldn't they try not only to cut costs, but to make money? We all have seen add banners in HLTV, or on our favourite CS community site (please don't understand that as a complaint :). Why shouldn't they get the idea of selling add space in a virtual public location? I don't expect this to happen all too soon, but in a far future...? Of course my "Rescue the Coke-sipping-celeb" phantasy was just a miserable attempt at humor...

Because - the good hax out there would find a way to block the ads right away and you know if they did anything drastic that affected our game just so they could put a yahoo ad up on dust their rep would immediately go to shit - I don't take them for being that stupid.

The ads built into the loading screens and such for bandwidth providers don't bother me at all. Neither do HLTV ads during CPL or the floating sprites provided by admins on some servers.

Besides if a hostage looked like a celeb...I'd have to shoot him.

Why should it seriously affect the game? Somebody pointed that out before - nobody really notices the Gamehelper add in Dust2 (or is really bothered by it). So why not Yahoo, Matrox, AMD, or anything else? People might say "Aww those damn sell-outs! I can't believe they did that" - and would continue to play.

"Drink Coca Cola!" - "NO, EAT LEAD!!!"

I know I should use the quote feature, but it's quicker for me to quote peopel in the old-time fashion, then for my lame 56k to load up the quote page or for me to type [ quote] infront of stuff.
