    New Knife Info

VALVe's Erik Johnson sent out an Adobe Acrobat press release about Counter-Strike 1.6's new knife (seen to the right). It's not very relevant to most players, but it details just what the new knife is all about. You can skip loading Acrobat by clicking through below to read the text.

The new knife is included with the Counter-Strike 1.6 BETA released yesterday. In miscellaneous CS 1.6 news, Gabe Newell has confirmed that the sniper blackout discrepancy between resolutions will finally be fixed.[break="see press release text"]
The new Counter-Strike knife is based on Mick Strider's award winning bowie. It is an integral design that started as a 1/2" thick slab of 6AL4V titanium. The edge is press-fit Stellite, and no bonding agent was needed or used as it is held in place due to the extremely precise fit between the titanium and Stellite. The handle is fossilized mastodon ivory held in a carbon fiber pocket.

Each year at the Blade show, a group of internationally renowned knife designers, including Ken Onion, Tom Mayo, Jerry Hossom, Rob Simonich, and Duane Dwyer, compete in a peer-reviewed knife competition. This Mick Strider design, dubbed the "Badlands Bowie", was the winner of the inaugural event.

After the competition, the knife was auctioned off to provide funds for autism research. The use of a press-fit Stellite edge on a titanium back is an unprecedented achievement. It creates a knife that is much lighter and quicker than would be possible with traditional blade designs. The Stellite and titanium are both far more corrosion resistant than even the best stainless steel.

Mick Strider is the founder and lead designer at Strider Knives, a premiere provider of knives to US military personnel, special operations, and LEOs. Strider Knives website is at http://www.striderknives.com/, and they can also be reached through their presence at the Usual Suspect.net forum, http://www.usual-suspect.net/forums/for...=&forumid=12.
I have absolutely no idea why all this information is being released, but it sure as heck looks like a form of advertising for Mick Strider. Then again, it's not really advertising anything.

    A bit off-beat.

That explains why it looks like something Chef Tony would use?

I wish they had remodelled the SOG 2000 knife instead of some crap that was sold for autistic people.

Is the new text in-game an update or is that steam-only?

I like the way the knife is held (blade up) but I don't like the knife itself. It doesn't seem like a knife CTs would use. Ts maybe, but not CTs.

Yeah, it definitely doesn't seem like a CT knife... maybe use that for Ts and keep the old one for CTs? That seems to make sense... anyone know which way of holding a knife is more likely for CT/T? :P

Besides, CTs and Ts would be getting their equipment from different sources, so how likely is it that both sides would be using the exact same type of knife? ;D

I know it won't happen.. it makes too much sense.

Anyway the new weather effects are great! Too bad they hurt fps.

Even farther off topic, I can't wait to see CS2 on Source engine.

It may look good in real life, but rendered into a game, it is just a POS

What a silly question since the answer is both, but yes it's obviously a game update. Steam only affects downloading and junk and has nothing to do with text.

its not that bad of a knife, but the camo on it is gay, get rid of the camo and it will be nice

It's a decent knife and a hell of a lot better than what we have had to put up with. And to those who keep trying to compare a damn game to real life...go out and get a REAL life. Maybe then you won't be so anal and mad at life and stupid things like this.
