I think he meant "this time around" as in the 2nd step in the life story of Gordon Freeman... ie. Half Life 2 (as opposed to Half Life); and not the whole RC thing.

It doesn't matter if there are one or one hundred bugs left. Publishers like to see a near flawless game before they put their "stamp of approval" on it. They don't want to put out a bug filled game with their name all over it, it'd be bad business.
Really?? That explains all the buggy PC games I've bought in the past..

I think HL2 has a pretty good change to go gold pretty quick, the CS:S beta hasn't got any major 'game crashing' bugs anymore (at least not for me).. Remaining bugs can be fixed easily using Steam, that's also a reason why I think they will go gold soon..

Original HL Release Candidate was approved by Sierra in 48 hours... Let's hope HL2 will follow the same way...

          They'd better realise it soon, I didn't get an Athlon 64 3500 / X800 Pro for nothing...

Especially as it's taken like 3 weeks to stop the SATA interface crashing Windows all the time.

I pray all the people who dropped by VALVe's offices have found all the showstopper bugs so Vivendi Universal can give their approval and allow the game to go gold. Please VALVe, I hope you took care of most of the bugs (obviously not all; that's impossible) so the publishers can give their thumbs up and start mass-production. C'mon October! C'mon!

P.S. I'm hoping for October, but my prediction is still late November (2004 of course).

well theres still the problem wiht CS:source beta that it runs horrible on some peoples systems. Very good Systems like A64 with 1gig Corsair XMS DDR ram and 9800xt's or other very good cards. While people with 9600 pros and a fast processor (2.8ghz p4 or so) are getting 100 fps.

So there seems to be some issues there.

Granted, publishers won't find everything, but they'll more in likely spot some glaring bugs that may require immediate attention. Say if one of the bugs causes the cd to spin so fast it blows out the front computer housing and severs a few arteries.

Right on schedule. (the unofficial date was 9/15)

By the way, it took the HL1 RC 48 hours to be approved.

They make QA people work up to three 24 hour days in a row on and RC for a game that is way behind schedule.

Unless there is a showstopper bug expect to see it go gold no later than monday.

If there is a bug, however, it will be rejected and Vavle will need to fix it and send a new RC.

Those are called graphics card drivers, i'm sure ati / nvidia will release hotfixes or whatever once the game comes out.
