Where I'm playing on this VAC server, I just saw 2 days ago a wallhacker. Didn't even bother to cover how he was playing (getting all his kills through a wall with a AWP is a sight to behold)... Eventually he left (lack of admin), but that just shows how much VAC isn't truly working....

VAC just isn't a very good anti cheat. Cheats are VAC-proof in a matter of days, and it has false positives. Those are two Very Bad Things. I wouldn't have a problem with the first so much if the second didn't happen... but man, when something has the power to ban people for years, it has to be airtight, and there has to be some kind of effective appeals mechanism that exonerates the innocent and still catches the guilty.

it's better than no default cheat protection at all. though i think valve really should work more with the community (United Admins) and work to integrate C-D anti-cheat methods in VAC. Why they don't is beyond me.

To all the people that claim they haven't seen a hacker on a server for 4 million years: Go play on the Games-Fusion servers. I've lost count of how many hackers I've seen on there (and by 'hackers' I don't mean the people that are just good at CS and own me - I'm talking about the people who freely admit they hack). Some of them are actually okay though. For example, there is one clan (whom shall remain nameless) that uses the GF servers alot, and they all hack, but they're pretty decent guys and they're only pissing about, so it's not to bad with them. In fact I'd rather play with them then most of the 'normal' people on the GF servers (I honestly didn't used to believe that all CS players are raciest, homophobic twonks, but since using the GF servers I've come to realise that 99% of the CS players out there fit that description). Those sort of hackers are okay (in other words, so long as they're okay guys, they're fine by me). Problem is when you get some arrogant hacking bastard who thinks he's gods' gift to CS, or one of those gits that no matter how often you vote kick him, he keeps coming back in and never takes the hint. those are the ones that need to be banned...... maybe someone should try to make some sort of anti-cheat that only gets rid of the gormless bastard hackers and not the okay guys?

no it's for Steam only. or not, dunno, but I think they updated it to keep the cache files safer.



VAC support for NS should come with NS 2.1.
