Supersonic1425 wrote..whatever happened to the idea of increasing the price of the AWM by a lot as to stop just the average player from ever getting one? give it a heavy price tag so the person will think twice about buying it. id say thats a better solution than the current delay. the price should reflect on the weapons effectiveness.
You're wrong. The AWP has been my favourite weapon for ages, and I always quick switched. At first, I wasn't too keen on the idea, but I adapted. Everyone else will too. There will be a handful who won't, and they can hf playing cs1.3

the quickswitch used of the past is comparable to putting on a silencer, switching, and switching back fast. u still have to wait specific time. u dont gain any time advantage, only speed of the pistol and option to use the pistol. if u dont believe me, please, load up 1.5 and test it.
Ok let me break it down so you can understand a very basic concept.
In previous versions the time it took to pull out and fire the awp is much less than the time it took between shots. Now, the time it takes to pull out and shoot an awp is about equal to the time it takes between shots. This prevents people from firing an awp faster than it was meant to be fired as well as giving them a speed boost between shots. Now, if you keep the awp out between shots there is no difference from last version.
with this "fix", now it is impossible to use a pistol inconnection with an awp. if you switch to a pistol and decide u cannot use it, u must use it or you are dead. there is no difference in pullnig your awp out and doing a "no-scope" and firing as soon as you pull out your m4. many people say that the awp should not be able to do that, they see the "no-scoping" happen far too often. in reality, few professionals can time a shot to include the accurracy of the scope before the shot scopes and fire accurately. online, from a spectator, you do not see the brief time, up to a half second that the awp is scoped. its a similar situation when u say "o damn tom u were right above his head" and on tom's side, he hadnt fired until he lowered it to his head.
to me, its a shame that jesse doesnt understand his own obvious coding, but its even harder to try and think he actually thought that adding the time delay(which is a cheap "fix", not even "fixing" the "bug" that is claimed) would make the community happy. i do expect articles such as shaguar's on the money system to start popping up soon about this change.Comment

right now, a large quanitity of people are playing 1.3. obviously these steam updates weren't what the community wanted.
but i'll tell you what they DO want:
new models, new maps, new textures, solid radar was a good idea, lower fps, and so on.. keep the gameplay relatively the same, but add new things to keep it interesting, not removing thingsComment

Are you high? There are 134 servers for cs 1.3 right now, and right now there are 15,703 cs 1.6 servers. Hmmmmmm
right now, a large quanitity of people are playing 1.3.
And thats still only what I see, according to real figures there are 22,443 servers with 66,820 players.Comment

Because the community generally has no idea what they want.
Half the community want the AWP to be less powerful, half want it to stay. There is no consensus for change in this case (if there ever has been).
Bunnyhopping, quickswitch, strafejumping all made counter-strike an unpleasant experience for a lot of players and contributed to the stigma now attached to the game that comes up time and time again in any discussions about CS.
Good riddance to quickswitch, It was cheap and detrimental to the game. Please don't come back with "but it was a skill to quickswitch! Just because the n00bs can't do it Ha Ha!" because that's utter horseshit. The skill of the weapon should lie in using it the way intended, not by abusing a bug that should have been addressed a long time ago. You may as well argue the case for keeping skywalking in because it gives you an advantage.Comment

That'd be very nice, but don't ask the American "pros" who I guess would be the ones winning money at CPL. There are a few American pro teams that are mature enough to know what they're talking about, but then we get idiot teams like Rival, who I personally do not want representing me in any way. Get the top team from each country, sit down with them for a couple days and discuss what needs to be fixed, public and league wise.
how about valve tries asking the pro's what they should do about cs, they're probably the only people who want the game alive and obviously want to do what's right for cs if they're making profit out of it in competitions. asking a few mad public server players is only going to hurt cs. doesn't it seem logical to allow someone who's been playing cs for 4-5 years make a decision?biff wrote..
Don't exaggerate.

Really? Wow, having played in leagues for about 4 years, I can honestly say you don't know what you're talking about. When players get good enough with the AWP to drop 2-3 players in a scrim/match per round, one of the first things they had learned was how to "quickscope" as it's called. It's alot more simple than you'd think, it's pretty much just right clicking almost at the exact sime time you fire, but not quite.
in reality, few professionals can time a shot to include the accurracy of the scope before the shot scopes and fire accurately. online, from a spectator, you do not see the brief time, up to a half second that the awp is scoped. its a similar situation when u say "o damn tom u were right above his head" and on tom's side, he hadnt fired until he lowered it to his head.
Then again, maybe you're talking about the NEW delay with the AWP, if so, how would you know how many pros can quickscope with it or not?
Just because you can't, doesn't mean people better than you can (though I havn't seen anyone since the patch that can do it effectively :\ ).Comment

That's totally stupid. You can't just use whatever res 'bests uits' your moniter, youv'e got the graphic card and your FPS to worry about. I'm on 'just' a 15" moniter. 1024x768 looks fine for the desktop. In CS however, I can't use 1024x768 because my FPS will drop into the relms of single digits. Thus, I need to use a low res (hell, I only get 30FPS or so in 640x480). I don't do it because it's 'pro', I do it because my PC is abit old but I can't afford and get a new one just for the sake of one game. The way you're saying it, it sounds like I'd be forced to get a new graphic card and a bigger moniter, just because VALVe reckon I should use a different res. Bollocks to that.
As for the crosshair thing, I believe the idea is you use the resolution best suited to your monitor (eg. 1024*768 for 17 inch). It kinda falls down if you use run 640*480 on your 19 inch screen because its "pro".Comment

That doesn't really mean anything given the number of people who play CS.
