VALVe need to listen to the old saying "don't try to fix what isn't broken". There was nothing wrong with the crosshair before, then they fucked over half the CS community. Then they changed it agian and fucked over the other half. Stop trying to be so damn 'up-to-date' and 'supportive', just give us our damn crosshairs back!Amen to that. Leave what doesn't need to be fixed, and only update the game with better additions

I figured out one thing... that the people making these updates dont know what they are doing. First they enlarge the cross-hairs, and now they shrink them... Come on, make up your mind please. Where are these ideas coming from?
Scaled crosshair based on 1024 * 768

AWSM change = good, now if we could just limit the magazine capacity to 5 rounds, like an actual AWSM would be.... (i saw 'ASWM' because, well, in .338 lapua, it'd be an Arctic Warfare Super Magnum... not the Arctic Warfare Police which comes in .308, if I'm not mistaken.) Or, leave it at 10, and make it an actual AWP shooting the .308. It'd still be more powerful than the scout, and not so damn cheesy.
... though, if that was done, I'd rather see a Remington 700 in .308 win, it is a much nicer looking firearm.
crosshairs = thanks for giving me my small crosshair back. the 800x600 scaled one looked screwed at 1280x1024. The bullets still went where you put them, but when the open space on the screen is bigger than a dime.... And a dime is a lot bigger than what you want to hit for the most part. As far as any whining about the 'pros who mostly play in 800 anyways,' fuck them, they're a minority to the rest of the 'normal' CS players out there and they should all have bought new graphics boards and CPUs long ago. Like the rest of us did. I could kill AA/AF and run CS at 1600x1200 if I didn't mind jaggies... A two-year old GeForce4 Ti4200/Pentium4 2.4 will run CS at more than 60fps at 1280x1024 without AA/AF on... As far as fucking over half the community goes, I say we fuck over the half who don't upgrade their hardware. Besides, its not like they're going to be spending any money on any new games valve might make, if it won't run on their stone-age hardware. No one supports DOS. Why support 800x600 resolution when any PC made in the past two years can do 1024x768 easily?
Scout = i could care less about the scope change, as a Scout fan, 'cause, well, you move as fast with the Scout as you do the knife, you don't need to quickswitch or 'quickscope' (bah) like you do with that silly cannon AWSM. Just don't do anything else to it!

U don't have the tiniest idea why pro's use 800*600?
Try It for a day or two! you'll increase your frags or your money back!
Even better! Try 800*600 on a 19" screen!
A none noob scores more headshots than Roco in a blowj*b contest !!!
As for new cross hairs : I agree with MIKE J, think they're excellent! (in 800*600 they especially ROCK!)Comment

CS:CZ Bot1 "Ooooh Boy!" CS:CZ Bot2 "Yikes!" Another update! :o
I'm not finished with the first one, yet! I could'nt run cbble, due to the error in the wad file and, now, I'll probably stare at the update bar for another night. I might, as well, play offline until this thing settles down. >

The 'using lower resolutions' thing doesn't make sense. Higher resolutions mean a larger chunk of pixels to shoot at, compared to lower resolutions. I've got a decent gaming system, and I run CS at 1600x1200 with 4xAA/8xAF. Playing at 1024x768 or *gasp* 800x600 would be annoying, because HUD sprites would use up more of the screen, and there'd be a smaller number of pixels for me to actually shoot at (1600x1200 would give you four times the number of pixels to target, as compared to 800x600). 3D games are different from your Windows desktop, which uses 2d items, rather than rendering a 3d environment. Higher resolutions mean a sharper, more detailed view of 3d items, and 2d items taking up less space (assuming they're not scaled). If, beyond performance issues (which shouldn't be an issue with a four year old game) there's a reason to run at lower resolutions, I'd be glad to hear your explanation.Comment

So you don't think the "pro minority" contributes to keeping an old game alive? More money is dished out for Counter-Strike by sponsors, than any other game. If there was no competitive side of CS outside the ever so serious public server, with people who join clans for no reason, would the same money be put behind events and teams, which further bring others to the game? Not everyone that plays CS competitively should be considered a "pro". There's probably only about 15 teams you could call pros, that recieve money and attend international events. If none of those teams ever existed, none of those big events ever happened, the competitive side of CS would be much much smaller if existant at all.
I'd say about 1/3rd of the community plays or has played competitively, and that's a big chunk. Regardless of the game, the pro minority is leading the e-sports scene. Whether you're involved or not, wouldn't you consider e-sports growing to be a good thing? But yea, screw the pro minority, because it's not like they're doing anything for the community or anything, while pubbers join worthless clans, whine about everything in the game there is to whine about, bring the most idiot maps I've ever seen in a game into a constant rotation (iceworld?), and just plain suck with no plan to improve. Please, shut up and think about what you say, and how much no one cares about you as a player, much less an important group of people.appended @ [time="1083718236"]Evil Timmy wrote..
Go try it. The reason I use 800x600 (used to use 640x480) is because it seems to run smoother, I get better FPS, and shots just seem to hit better. You don't need a sharper, more detailed view of your enemy. You should know where their head is, and that's all you need to shoot at. I don't know why you'd want more pixels to shoot at, if the object they draw are the same size as a lower resolution's object. Better graphics doesn't = easier gameplay.

Can you stop using that avatar? I keep confusing you for MikeJ, someone who knows what they're talking about. By your logic, they should enforce the same standard resolution, same crosshair color, not allow custom models. Hell, why stop there? Force everyone that wants to play to use the same computer, same equipment, same monitor. Not enough? Force them to have surgery to make everyone that plays have equal eyesight, same hand size, same height, same everything. It's not that people can't aim with a different crosshair, it's just personal preference. I can still aim with the small crosshair, would I rather have my old crosshair back? Yes. Was there a reason to change the crosshair? No. There's too many variables in the game to say it was changed to make the game fair.
How about to make it fair accross all resolutions? I have an LCD monitor, and so I can't try resolutions higher than 1024x768, and I always assumed that the crosshair size was the same physical size on all resolutions. Then they changed it so it was fair, and all the high-resolution people starting whining 'cos they no longer had the *very slight* advantage. Jesus Christ, if you can't aim with a slightly bigger crosshair, then you're a n00b.
Is it fair to allow league players to play in public servers, or to allow pro players to play in lower level leagues? Not really, but suck it up and stop whining. In the end it comes down to skill, not what size crosshair someone has, or what mouse they have. Evening the playing field will only give you people less to whine about, and then you'll whine about that!Smurfzilla wrote..
I just.. I mean.. How can.. Are you seriously that insanely dumb? Have you played the game before? Have you used the AK before? I'm not even going to explain why the AK is better than both the scout and the pump, because you'll probably just shove crayons up your nose and call me a doo-doo head, and then I'll cry.
weak sniper rifle...last i checked it kills in 2 shots, if u ask me thats better than an ak...even pump shotty can kill in 2 shotsComment

Every player that has been playing since at least 1.1, before they added the weapon switch delay to compensate for the animation, KNOWS for a fact that the time between switching from awp to pistol and back and just letting it rebolt was EXACTLY the same, if not longer. Not only that, but they added a delay to the zoom to make sure there wasn't a way to fire it faster and just as accurate.
Ok let me break it down so you can understand a very basic concept.
In previous versions the time it took to pull out and fire the awp is much less than the time it took between shots. Now, the time it takes to pull out and shoot an awp is about equal to the time it takes between shots. This prevents people from firing an awp faster than it was meant to be fired as well as giving them a speed boost between shots. Now, if you keep the awp out between shots there is no difference from last version. This means you have to be more accurate with your first shot.
On the scout complaints. In case people didnt already know, there is NO difference between running around with a scout and running around with a knife. If you pistol switched with the scout you ran slower. Dont switch to a pistol or knife after you fire a shot. Instead, just take another shot.
I'm sick of the people still complaining about awp delay. If you actually took the time to figure it out you'd realize these things yourself. But because you are bitter that you cant quick switch anymore you dont realize it.
I mean come on. They took the ONLY gun in the game that can get a 1 shot kill without being within 5 feet or hitting the head, and made you a little less manueverable and made you hit your first shot while using it. IT ISNT THAT BAD.
So cliffe, when was the last time you tested the game (obviously you don't beta test patches, due to the crosshair bug which was obvious)? I made demos a long time ago of the time difference between the two, then did a startdemo at 60fps. No difference in time and the awp was being scripted, not done manually. Also, why nerf the AWP when the AK and M4 are dominating the game? Makes no sense to nerf a weapon to make other weapons useful, but not nerf the 2 most abused weapons to make actually make the other guns useful.Comment

Dunno if this was mentioned before but if I switch on cl_dynamiccrosshair, my crosshair doesn't change size when I stand or run.. its the same size for both actions.. the only difference is that with that option on, the crosshair size for usp (not sure about other guns) is bigger.
Is this a bug or the latest feature from cs 1.3?Comment
