CS:S might over-ride CS if the hit detection and hit boxes are fixed, and if the overall game is made to be more similar to CS (animations, models, movement speed--all just dont feel like counter-strike). But even so, there's a slim chance. There's just something about the half life engine and CS's gameplay that feels "right". The source doesn't have this. Sure, Source has better graphics and all (the online physics are crap though), but so did all of those other games that people stated would crush CS. Now they're back to playing CS again.
People will play CS:Source for a while, but no matter how much they praise it, they'll eventually go back to CS.
This has already happened like 20 times with different games already, and everyone knows that. They'll go back.Comment

Around ~10% of players on cs-s? Not bad considering cs-s is only availble via steam. I figure for the most part that has to be the more hard core of us cs fans who can't wait for hl2, and are well in tune with the steam service.
When HL2 breaks, that's going to be a huge user base of cs players and non-cs players who'll suddenly also have cs-s at their fingertips. Be interesting to see these numbers in January.Comment

There's nothing wrong with the hitboxes in CS:S, it's just the netcode that needs tweaking so the hitboxes don't move outside the models in certain situations.. The models are fine, they look much better then the CS 1.6 ones and they move much more realistic.. Why would you want old ugly models in a game like CS:S? Doesn't make sense.. Only thing that CS:S misses over CS 1.6 is the flinching when hit.. About the movementspeeds, it was already proven they are the same as in CS 1.6, so I have no clue why you 'feel' they are different..

Sure people can play CS 1.6 on the old HL engine forever if they want, but it's gonna end sometime.. It's already more then 5 years old, it surely won't last another 5 years.. I'm sure I won't be playing any HL-engine game anymore in a few months time, I'll be hooked to CS:S and DoD:S etc, or other (newer) games.. I've played HL games for over 5 years, they had their time, obsolete now..
Deletable_Man is right, some people (especially CS players) need to learn to just enjoy playing their games, instead of whining about every little detail they do not like..Comment

I was one of those guys reading the "fix the hitboxes" posts during the beta period (which I did not participate in) and thinking to myself "yeah right, it's just different and you haven't gotten the hang of it yet".
Now that I've played CS:S I'm in total agreement. When the target is standing still, everything works fine and you don't notice much of a difference between CS1.6 and CS:S. But when the target is on the move, you can put their chest in the crosshair of a shotgun and you won't touch them. However, I repeatedly see people AWPing targets and missing way behind them, and guess what? Surprise, surprise! Dead target. And the funny thing is that a bloodspray will fly out of thin air and paint the wall where they were aiming, but NOT where the model is.
You do the math. Anyway, my advice for now is hold your shot until your target stands still. If he's strafing back and forth, time your shot for when he stops moving as he reverses direction. Don't try aiming behind and end up teaching yourself bad habits.

I think we've all said that CS is on its way out and that in a few months no one will be playing it whenever a new game comes out, but after a while the honeymoon phase wears off and we're back to if something is actually fun or not on a sustained basis. So far, it seems like CS has a lot of players because it's easy to pick up and be good at, but to be REALLY good you have to play a ton and learn the tricks. It's accessible and you don't need a monster computer to play it at a smooth framerate.

For CS players that play competitively in CAL and such, those little things matter. It bugs the hell out of me in Source when I KNOW I would've killed someone in CS but it just doesn't happen because the game feels somewhat clunky or the hitboxes seem to fake you out. The little things matter to people that depend on them. However, playing it casually and not caring about good scores it's much easier to enjoy and look past those minor inconveniences. Hell, I die occasionally taking pictures of cool Source-related scenes. I totally understand where the hitbox/netcode/feel arguments are coming from though, and I'm not sure people who don't play in a league would necessarily notice them (not trying to be elitist at all, I used to be very much against clans and clanplay, but I'm just going from how I was to how I am now).Comment

CS:S does feel very clunky compared to CS, and other things have been pointed out in the past so I wont say it all over again.
As far as the pay-to-play thing in CAL goes, I'm all for it. It'll keep the idiot whiner kids out, it should decrease hacker numbers, and it should keep the really really crappy people out. Don't get me wrong, everyone has the right to play (excluding hackers) in CAL, but people should learn the game before they try to jump into a league. Nothing is more annoying then beating team in a blowout, and then having them accuse each member of your team of hacking. Until you can hold your own against mid-range CAL-o players, please, just stay out of the league.Comment
