woah Natural Selection with 128 players...

or a nice DMC with 128 players :)

CS with 128 players wouldn't be fun imo. It seems too much for CS-type play. Maybe a bit excessive for NS as well though.

The to-do list is likely just from the bug lists and suggestions posted in the Steam forums, of which Ritchey is the moderator. Valve is taking those bug reports and suggestions seriously enough that most of them have been implemented in successive versions of Steam.

(bonus frags for defusing/planting) a really good objective inspiring feature and well worth while.
Except that if they're putting "DEAD" back on the scoreboard, then I'd say they don't give much of a shit about teamplay and objectives.

It's like this. If you don't know who is dead and who isn't, then teamwork becomes terribly important. There's now a _reason_ to say "spotted an enemy" or "took one down" on the radio. Not only that, but it means that people will have to be cautios and guard areas and not just rushrushrushrushrushOMGRUSHUNOOB all the time.

But on the other hand it seems that's how the "community" wants it, which implies that the "community" should be coding the game themselves.

You wont see that many players for a while yet. It has little to do with fun and more to do with bandwith. 64 players in most games already stretch both the average server hardware and the connections. One reason CS can have so many servers is the ease and minimum bandwith required to run a stable server. At 64 players your starting to stress both the server (few servers out there could support the up required) and the average broadband client. At 128 your not going to find many if any servers that can actually support it.

In a perfect world, you're right. Sadly, there are two typical Counter-Strike instances which I will break down for you very quickly.

On a public server, teamplay means nothing. It's never going to get to the point where the entire team is going to say enemy down/enemy spotted with any sort of regularity. Look at voice comm. Hardly anyone on public servers really uses it for anything but saying "fuck you nub you stole my killz," and even if they did it would really clutter the radio on 20+ player servers. You're attributing some kind of mystical brotherhood to the teams when, in reality, most people would kill their teammates if it didn't take so long and screw their score up. Because of that, servers would've turned into camp-fests for the attacking team. The average player is a camping moron ANYHOW, and adding this element would do little but promote more of the same.

In the clan world, this could've potentially worked. However, it would end in a huge advantage for the teams that use Roger Wilco and other third party voice communication software. Sure, it's not too hard for a team to spout off how many kills they've made or count in the console, but I'm pretty sure most teams would simply choose to have the dead people say how many and which players are alive. And why give LAN teams an even bigger advantage where they can just look at the monitors next to them to see the status of the other team?

It was a good idea in theory, but, like many CS-related topics, the terribly immature community would screw it up. It would've ended up hurting the game more than helping. However, I'm all for the 3 frags for bomb planting/defusing. That one makes sense. It encourages objectives in public servers, and in clan matches no one cares about frags anyhow.

Also, your last point about the community is pretty stupid. Game developers are game developers because they develop games. They develop the games for the community. Listening to the community creates a game more people will buy/play, thus providing money to said game developers and creating an opportunity for more games to be developed by game developers that listened to the community of the developed games. I'm not really seeing why I, with no coding experience or tools, should begin development on Counter-Strike simply because I provided the feedback that was requested. Not only is it nonsensical, but I would certainly take longer to update the game than VALVe, and we already know how great the community is at waiting.

YES YEAH YES YES this is the best freaking news since the announce of HL2! Without the hidden *DEAD* tags, I can enjoy CS and I don't have to stop playing it!

Thx valve! You made my day

I am Glad they put DEAD back on scoreboard. I HOPE THEY ALSO REMOVE THE +3 FRAGS and that shit. IT IS NOT NEEDED. Why change something that doesnt need changing ? Cs itself doesnt need to be changed, just fix bugs. Dont change inferno, it is FINE. Aztec is now a gay map, and looks shitty with lights and that bridge. Put it back to normal but fix doors so it makes it even.

I think they should make a version for pub play (ie:1.6) and a version for league play which is fix minor bugs and things (ie:1.51 or 1.52)
