You'd think that, but in fact it means cliffe will be standing behind each of us at least once while we play. and sometimes while we sleep.

I wonder if VAC can actually go on the proactive to block cheaters as C-D does. Having a client-side program that validates your connection is really the safest way to pick up the little bastards (IMVHO).



A server-side only solution to me seems like they'll always act on the defensive, blocking technologies as they are made and not trying to increase the amount of time cheat-makers take to make a cheat that's undetectable to VAC (which is what's really necessary as killing all cheat-makers is unpractical).



I like Cheating Death because of this, they're on both sides of the network, validating user input and validating server responses. From the cheat sites I've seen, C-D blocks most of them before they've even been released to the general public while VAC, for a part, blocks them only after updates.



I'd rather wait until the guys at UnitedAdmin took C-D offline because it's useless compared to VAC or I read on CS forums that VAC is "da shiat"!

There always has been.



It's not a matter of taking them out in one swoop but a war of attrition. You'll never totally eliminated them from the HL engine, but you can slowly cut them down.

Um... Vac is server and client side silly. And it does have generic "hook detection" methods like CD. However unlike CD VAC actually detects, logs and bans cheaters, not just dops them so they can find another cheat that is CD proof and hack away.

Yah I agree, CD is great but it needs to log / and/or ban players imo. Maybe they should come to some agreement with valve so that CD logs and then sends the logs to valve to ban the fools for one (1) year :)

Hmm, what does CD do anyways? I haven't seen it do ANYTHING, not even kick/ban people from the server... I hate CD -- It lags me up...
