Well, why set up like 30 servers, if in the end after everyones downloaded it, they'll only need 5- 10?

Valve aint bad, think about it. They are doing the gratouitous favour of keeping WON up until Steam is working exactly how it should. Now, i think thats a lot better than just scrapping won all together, so show them some respect. Besides, when steam works properly, it will truely be wonderful.

You guys are insane. Ten seconds to do 1%? So that's 1,000 seconds.

          166 minutes. 2 hours and 46 minutes.

And plus, by the time you get near the end, it will go faster anyway.

Seriously, all this stuff with steam will be gone in a month or two. And this first week will be a pimple that is otherwise forgotten.

Steam is here to stay, it will eventually work, and you no longer need to do anything except put up with the TEMPORARY common occurence of error messages. In fact, you don't even have to keep an eye out for updates and keep up with the latest patches, steam does that automatically for you.

Once the bandwidth increases to player usage, it'll all work fine, especially as they continue to iron out bugs, in steam and all the games it supports as well.

I don't think 90% of steam users understand. The error messages in steam are almost always because of bandwidth problems, not programming problems. There are pretty few 'bugs' in steam, it's simply VERY dependant on steam servers for authentication, checking, verifying, downloading, patching, and even RUNNING. So if the steam servers are down, or just slow, then your program is going to screw up. If they aren't, then it won't.

Power off (not reboot), power back on, and try again, patiently. By patiently I mean 'wait half an hour'. That solves the majority of problems. And you won't always have to wait half an hour to play, that will be fixed eventually as well.

Seriously, if you want to play CS, just be patient and wait, and go read a book or something while it's loading.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most intellegent, this thread has a mean intellegence of about -5.

You know at least 2 or 3 other big name companies and publishers are trialling their own 'Steam' variants for content delivery? The idea is here to stay.

How much ram do you have in your computer. Steam runs best when its the only program running. I usualy just run AIM with my away message on when I go play. If your computer doesent have enough memorey to run steam and the game...that could be your error message right there.

On another note. All this ranting about 1.6 will end in I say another month and a half. Its like all new versions. "OMG THIS IS THE SUXOR" 2 months later "W00T for CS 1.6, best version ever...if they make 1.7 I shall slay them"

Every version the same old things. Whining about hitboxes, whining about gameplay, omg a n00b headshotted me. It will all end.

Steam is shaping up to be a awesome program. All you people ranting about steam because it runs slow. A program that can do all it can do IE: download games instantly, update games instantly, friends, servers, run the games ect... Obviously its going to take a while to work out all the kinks. Give VALVe time to do all this. If you have a ELITE system and its still giving you trouble, something has to be preventing steam from working properly, no reason it works for half the people and not the other half, unless their system just cant handle it. So email valves support and ask questions insted of sitting here crying to the community that you made a booboo and your mommy is not home to make it all better.
