I couldn't accurately give a percentage of how many people use custom models, but pretty much all of the long-term players I know who aren't competing in a league use at least some custom models for their CS1.6 install.

As far as CS:S goes, I'd be willing to bet the only reason more of the community isn't using custom models is because it's been made much more difficult to create and use them. Moves like this one certainly don't help that, especially when the CVAR isn't defaulting to allow custom models.

Either way, the few times I get a chance to play CS anymore (aside from just testing models and such) I'm just playing 1.6 or CZ, so I probably find it easier to be patient than many others.

Still... I do find it odd that so much of the released software has a very incomplete "beta" feeling to it, despite being labeled otherwise. I guess I just don't agree with the whole "release it now, patch it later" methodology that more and more game developers seem to be falling into these days.

Heck, that's got to be a selling point for consoles, I suppose... at least you know your game was finished before you can buy it. :PComment
