  • Steam Banned in Malaysia Over Fight of Gods Game

Fight of Gods is an Early Access fighting game on Steam that, as you may already have guessed, include a number of gods and religious figures all battling it out. The roster includes religious figures such as good ol' Jesus "JC" Christ, Buddha, Zeus, Odin, and more.

Turns out that Malaysia, specifically the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission, weren't too happy about that game. They went ahead and banned the entire country from accessing the Steam store. They feel as though the game is a "threat to the sanctity of religion and inter-racial harmony in the country." A minister with the commission allegedly said that Valve was given a 24-hour window to prevent those in Malyasia from downloading the game. Also allegedly, Valve did not comply with this request.
"(To ensure) solidarity, harmony and wellbeing of the multi-racial and multi-religious people in the country are the main objectives of the government," Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said. "The government will not compromise with any action that can jeopardise these objectives."

This was a statement issued to the Malay Mail Online.

Valve issued their own statement to VentureBeat, saying that they have now pulled the game from the Malaysian storefront. Even with this, a number of ISPs in Malaysia are still actively blocking access to the Steam Store.

Fight of Gods is currently on sale for 40% off through Steam in countries that aren't Malaysia.
