  • Near Perfect Super Mario Bros. Run Sets New World Record Time

The world of speedrunning for the NES classic title Super Mario Bros. comes down to a matter of frames. We're not talking seconds or minutes here, we're literally talking about individual frames.

Darbian is a Super Mario Bros. speedrunner that has been hard at work trying to perfect the game for ages now. He previously set the world record back on October 18, 2015 with a time of 4:57.627. That record was beaten yesterday by none other than darbian himself.

His new time is a mind blowing 4:57.260. It may not seem like much but many are saying that darbian was only about 15 frames off from a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS) time. TAS runs are ones that are done with the aid of tools such as programs that allow people to plan and execute their moves one frame at a time for the "perfect" time. For a human to play in real time and get within 15 frames of a TAS run is something that is truly amazing and may very well never be beaten.

You can watch the run in its entirety below.
