Earlier, Treyarch revealed some tasty new details on what eSports fanatics will get to sink their teeth into when Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is released.
First and foremost is news that the competitive Call of Duty scene is making the switch to the PlayStation 4. This much should have been obvious given how the timed exclusivity deals switched from Microsoft to Sony this year. This is the first time PlayStation will be the focus of Call of Duty eSports since the original Black Ops.
Next, there will be a special Live Event Viewer built directly into the game. This feature allows fans to easily watch their favorite competitive matches with the touch of a button. Its functionality is very similar to what Valve does with Dota 2 and being able to watch any tournament or match with easy from within the game client.
This new feature ties in directly with the new COD Caster mode. COD Caster provides a wealth of information to you, the spectator. You can see things that the players themselves cannot, including loadouts, X-Ray vision, and more.
Treyarch also announced a special Ban and Protect system for Black Ops 3. Players on each team will get a turn to either turn off certain items or to "protect" them from being disabled for a match. If there is an item that a team really excels with, their competition may try to ban that item from being used if it's not already protected.
The Specialist Draft was also announced today by Treyarch. In the spirit of fairness and balance, this system ensures that there can only be one of each specialist type on each team.
