  • Friday the 13th Asymmetrical Game in Development

A new multiplayer game in the same vein as Evolve is coming for Friday the 13th. Like Evolve, the game will focus on asymmetrical multiplayer that finds a group of survivors going up against a single person that is in control over the "immortal, relentless slasher icon" Jason Voorhees.

The news comes courtesy of EGM.

“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form,” explains Sean S. Cunningham, creator of the original film that is credited by many as the genesis of the slasher/horror genre. “We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”

The game is in development by an "experienced game studio" though specifics were not provided. An official announcement of the game will be coming in the upcoming weeks. It's looking for a multi-platform release in October 2015.

If this idea sounds familiar, it could also be because an Indie studio had the same idea last year. The game, Last Year, was actually already funded through Kickstarter by December and was targeting a 2016 release. I can't help but feel bad for the team behind Last Year given this recent announcement. Unless, of course, this team and game idea were acquired by the studio working on the Friday the 13th game but that seems a bit unlikely.
