Planetary Annihilation is being sold at retail. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem, however, Planetary Annihilation is an Early Access title. Yes, an Early Access game, a game that isn't actually finished yet, is being sold at retail.
Uber Entertainment made some remarks to Game Informer about this terrible idea that will hopefully not turn into a trend. Here is what Jan Mavor from Uber said about the retail release.
There is something that just doesn't sit right by selling an unfinished game in a physical retail setting like this. Some may even argue that the idea of selling Early Access games digitally is also a terrible trend. With so many Early Access titles staying in development limbo, there is an incredibly high risk to uninformed consumers that do not understand what Early Access may entail.

"At Uber we've been trying really hard to innovate on business models during the entire development of Planetary Annihilation. We had planned to do a retail release all along and the early access box came about as part of our experimental attitude. Since early access works so well, our partners at Nordic thought that it would be worth trying an early access retail edition and we agreed it was a cool idea.
"The real question is, why not? After all, they are getting the same game, just earlier. It's a changing world and we hope to continue trying out new and innovative ways to make games."
