Valve to Announce Steam Machine Partners at CES 2014

Sure, you may have already checked out the Steam Machine prototype machine, but that won't be the only hardware configuration for the device. Valve is still gathering hardware partners for their devices and are poised to announce who these partners are when CES 2014 rolls around.

Valve's Greg Coomer spills the beans.

"From moment one it’ll be spread out across different manufacturers. There won’t be an official main partner and then everybody else. A team of people including Anna [Sweet] has been working with OEMs and manufacturing partners. There really is a pretty huge variety of machines. It’s not a huge number of boxes. In January we’re going to start to be specific about which partners there are, how many boxes there are, what kinds of specs those machines will include. Probably ballpark figures on what kind of range of prices we’ll be seeing for those boxes.”

In addition, Coomer said that additional partners will be added after the initial set and that the group of partners is not a static group. So yes, there will be a variety of Steam Machine configurations and the box will more than likely evolve over time and as technologies change.
