Project Reality 2 to be a Standalone Title

You guys remember Project Reality, right? It was a fairly popular modification for both Battlefield 2 and Arma 2. Recently, the team revealed that they will be making a new standalone title, Project Reality 2, and it will be built using CryEngine.

In addition, it will be free.

Project Reality 2 (or simply "PR2") will be a free to play multiplayer FPS PC game, based off of the critically acclaimed Project Reality modifications for Battlefield 2 and ARMA 2. Unlike our previous projects, PR2 will be a completely standalone game that will require no retail game to play. Our mission is to create the most realistic, immersive and demanding shooter within a virtual combat environment, focusing on encouraging teamwork through tactical gameplay.

    Current Status
Project Reality 2 began in mid 2012 and is being created completely from scratch using Crytek's next generation game engine, CryEngine 3 SDK. This powerful engine provides tools able to create many stunning features to recreate and improve upon what you as Project Reality players have become accustomed to.

We are currently developing an initial Alpha build, which will hopefully be ready for internal testing within the next two months. Since Project Reality 2 is a standalone game, everything must be built from scratch, thus requiring more production time than PR?s previous projects. A public release is still away off, but don?t worry; during the entire development cycle we will be updating the community with as much news and media as possible.

At the start, PR2 will be "small scale, infantry based" and will include a "comprehensive weapon handling system that will aim to be as realistic as possible."

It already includes the Fools Road map for their internal alpha. They also have Sant Elm in development. They also currently plan to implement British Armed Forces and an Insurgent Force. The US Army is also under development.

What about weapons? Well, they have "numerous" weapons already in development including the Kalashnikov AKS-74U and the Accuracy International L115A3 among others.

Need to give PR:BF2 1.0 a shot if it wasn't for this laptop. Though when the time comes and I have a gaming rig I need to try this too. Though I've found the PR community kinda pretentious, but I guess that comes from the bigger BF2 "we're better than dice!" modding community.

The weird thing is I play BF2 mods a lot so I must be a hypocrite or a total wanker. Likely the second bit.
