If you would like to make use of the game DVR functionality touted for the Xbox One, you will have to pay the price of Xbox Live Gold membership. Both the recording and uploading of the footage will be granted to those who pony up the cash for the subscription.

The DVR feature will allow Gold members to record up to five minutes of gameplay footage at a time, edit it, and then upload for the other Gold members to download and watch. The system will also constantly record the last 30 seconds of gameplay at any given time, just in case there is a quick clip you want to keep of something sweet you just did.
Meanwhile, Sony's own DVR type functionality for the PS4 is reportedly not restricted to PlayStation Plus subscribers and will allow for 15 minutes of recorded footage to be uploaded at any given time.
