Essentially, this all seems like non-news anymore. Some security breach or some rumor or something gets leaked about Half-Life 3 or Left 4 Dead 3 or Source Engine 2 and suddenly the world freaks the hell out for a while until our hopes and dreams die and fade away, only to be reignited a few weeks later by another glimmer of hope.
The latest comes to a tipster that sent some screenshots in to Valvetime. The images in question are from what should have been internal bug reports made through the bug tracking software, Jira.
However, a little security hole made it so that these internal details were suddenly publicly viewable. Whoops! The images show off groups dedicated to Half-Life 3, Source 2, and Left 4 Dead 3. Interestingly enough, it also shows something named "The Grange."
Many of the groups also include a good number of employees that are assigned to said group. The lists also curiously enough include the names of a few employees that are known to no longer be working at Valve. So, either these are fake or it's more likely that Valve just hasn't updated the employee list on this yet.
It's nice to once again see mention of Half-Life 3, especially with 42 out of the roughly 300 employees at Valve assigned to it. It is, however, alarming that there is only one group listing for Half-Life 3 while Left 4 Dead 3 has multiple groups listed. This perhaps indicates that Half-Life 3 is only at the very early stages of development.
Cue the sad trombone now.
Though looking at the Source 2 groups, it seems as though development of the updated engine is much further along than many have expected. How far along is it?
Well, my own source has informed me that Valve is informing those looking to work with the Source Engine to wait just a little bit. Yes, they are actively turning interested developers away from the current Source engine. Now, there's no reason why they would do that, unless, of course, Source 2 was nearing completion.
