Respawn Entertainment's mysterious new title is no longer a mystery. Outed by a Google Play leak of the upcoming issue of Game Informer (which supposedly wasn't supposed to be out until next week), we can see that Respawn's game is called Titanfall. It is slated for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC, and thus means is probably one of the "exclusive new IPs" that Microsoft was bragging about during their reveal event.
So, what can we take away from this leaked article? Quite a bit actually.
The Xbox 360 version is being developed by someone else. Microsoft apparently gave Respawn an offer they couldn't pass up once the team started to look at next-gen development. This includes the need to use Microsoft's Azure Cloud system for dedicated servers and calculations of physics and AI.
The game will include a campaign multiplayer, competitive multiplayer, and a single-player mode though details on all of these are sketchy at best. At its heart, it is still a first-person shooter where you also happen to control "Titans" (giant mechs) from time to time. If you don't want to be in the Titan, no big deal because they follow you, like a puppy.
A puppy that kills as it follows you. While being in a Titan still lets you be very mobile, being on foot lets you do multi-jumps and run on walls. Players will survive longer than in Call of Duty rounds. So, that's a plus, I guess.
Perhaps the most interesting part here is that they are using the Source Engine and will run at 60FPS. Yes, the engine is modified with major portions being rewritten for the game but it is still going to be Source at heart. It's going to be VERY interesting to see what has been done to make that engine look "next-gen" worthy.
Right now, the game is targeting a Spring 2014 release date. There are some more facts over at NeoGAF.
