Left 4 Dead 3 and Source 2 References Pop Up After Steamworks API Release

Recently, Valve opened the doors to the Steamworks SDK to the delight of developers everywhere. Naturally, people started to dig around in those files for something a little more juicy. They found it.

A Facepunch member, DevinWatson, went poking around within the Steamworks files and found a reference to Left 4 Dead 3. The appID for the game was found to be 235480, which according to SteamDB has been around for quite some time now but has not been updated in about a month.

His poking around seems to have not gone unnoticed as his Steam account was banned for violating the Steam Terms of Service.

Keep in mind that just because Left 4 Dead 3 is mentioned does not mean a Left 4 Dead 3 is in the works. It is entirely possible that Valve was merely testing some things out and used that name. Besides, we all know Valve can't publicly count to 3, so this is more than likely nothing.

There was further evidence of Source 2 being in development with Left 4 Dead 2 being the test subject for that engine. This comes from an unnamed Valve employee's LinkedIn profile.

It's nothing new, just further references to things we already knew.

Cool! Can't wait to play it finally. Anyway - Not a fan of HL3 and no idea what people find there :), but I like L4D series
