it seems as though it's almost time to bid farewell to Silicon Knights. Last Summer, most of the staff was laid off from the development studio. Today, it seems the office has now closed up shop and its remaining assets are being sold off to the highest bidders.
Despite this, the CFO, Mike Mays, says that the few remaining employees are still "very busy" and that the studio is "definitely alive." Cue the "Still Alive" joke here. This news follows the loss of a $4.45 million lawsuit from Epic Games over a dispute concerning the Unreal Engine.
A bulk of the assets that have been sold off have been sold to Precursor Games, a studio founded by Denis Dyack. Dyack was the former President of Silicon Knights. That doesn't seem shady at all! Despite that, Precursor Games is working on a fund raiser for Shadow of the Eternals, a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness, which you may remember us talking about before.
As of right now, Silicon Knights has not yet filed for any form of bankruptcy. Silicon Knights is perhaps best known for Eternal Darkness, Too Human, and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. They also worked on Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for the Nintendo Gamecube.
