Battlefield 3 Double XP Weekend Delayed Due to DDoS Attacks

Thanks to a number of ongoing DDoS attacks against the Battlelog services, DICE and EA have decided to postpone the planned double XP weekend until some time in the future.

A post on the Battlelog forums confirms the attack on their servers and have offered up ongoing status updates on the situation.

The current Battlefield 3 outages are a result of activity that appears to be aimed at overwhelming our back-end infrastructure. We are working on a variety of solutions to address this problem and are focused on resolution as quickly as possible.

The team has been working hard to combat the attack.

Despite our security measures, we have been working around the clock to mitigate the impact of an ongoing denial-of-service attack on our Battlefield 3 game infrastructure over the last several days. While the motives are unclear, the focus of the attack has been interference with network communications preventing access to multiplayer gameplay. At this point, no user data is involved. We share your frustration about the impact this has had to our service and the ability for many of you to play Battlefield 3. We are working tirelessly to mitigate the problem.

As a part of our efforts to resolve these issues, we’ve conducted rolling restarts of Battlefield infrastructure servers to apply some updates.

As a result, the Battlefield team decided to postpone the double XP event.

The BF3 double XP event previously planned for May 9-13 will be held at a later date. Stay tuned for updates!

This is just a heads up in case you were wondering why you weren't able to play or why you weren't seeing the double XP rain from the sky this weekend.

Why do I get the feeling that some flaming asshole(s) from the COD universe is(are) behind this DOS attack.. what do they gain out of this..? What do they achieve from this..?

I could care less about the double XP event. I am just annoyed by not being able to log into a game.

Just wondering why it took them this long to react and post this message. The servers have been acting up for 3-4 days already.
EA gains nothing from hiding this from the community.
I too am wondering why you would attack EA. I am pretty sure they hold no credit card information.

Maybe just some people who really hate EA. Just want to make a mess of things. I don't get why they would think this would help things... DDoSing doesn't directly destroy a company... Might make a dent in sales, sure, but its still a longshot.
