World of Warcraft Loses 1.3 Million Subscribers in Three Months

For the period of January through March, Blizzard reports that they have lost 1.3 million subscribers from the World of Warcraft. This is the lowest subscription numbers for the MMORPG have been in years.

At present, there are still 8.3 million active accounts. Though that's nothing to really sneeze at, it's still a fairly significant drop in the game's user base. Activision's CEO, Bobby "Moneyhats" Kotick says that the decline came mostly from the Eastern market but there was some decline from Western gamers as well.

The subscriber numbers peaked back in 2010 when there were 12 million active subscribers to the game. World of Warcraft is now over eight years old. More losses in subscriber numbers is expected by the end of the financial year.
