Bethesda Announces The Evil Within - A New Survival Horror Title from the Creator of the Genre Shinji Mikami

It's official now. Bethesda's newest title reveal is The Evil Within, a new survival horror game created by the father of the genre itself, Shinji Mikami.

The Evil Within, in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the PC, and next generation consoles, is slated for release in 2014. On Monday, April 22nd additional information about The Evil Within will be revealed in an exclusive feature story at IGN.com.

“We’re incredibly proud to announce The Evil Within,” said Mikami. “My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action.”

To accompany this announcement, a live action trailer for the game can be found below. Expanded impressions will come on Monday, April 22 with another IGN exclusive story. The game is slated for release on the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and next-gen consoles next year.

That already looks better than most recent horror movies.

Mikami coined the term with the release of the first Resident Evil in 1996. Afterwards a number of people started to retroactively describe their games released prior to 1996 as "Survival Horror" or applied it to a series when sequels were released.
