Rumor Smash: Battlefield 4 Commander Mode and Three Factions Rumor Denied by EA

Earlier today, a post on the Battlefield forums included various images and video of alleged Battlefield 4 promotional materials. Included in the materials were indications that there would be three playable factions (US, Russia, China) and also include a "Commander Mode."

The three factions would imply a three-way battle and fit in with the game's "all out war" theme. The Commander Mode included an RTS style view and ability to command teammates.

Unfortunately an EA spokesperson chimed in to kill those hopes and dreams.
"We appreciate fan enthusiasm, especially fans throughout the retail channel. These documents are not official Battlefield 4 marketing materials. Please check battlefield.com for official news and updates."

Now, that doesn't necessarily mean there won't be three playable factions or a Commander Mode but right now those things simply aren't official.

That would be awesome. 3 factions all against one another on the same map. 24 players on each side or faction and a commander for each faction.

Though I think they meant in the same vein as BF2. "They" as in mysterious force that conjured up this rumour. Though it would be interesting to see different starting weapons for all factions, and if the RU appeared it would also have been cool to play as RU v Ch. All that AK vs QBZ goodness (for the first few days at least)

It would be interesting to see how these materials made it to gamestop with legitimate and trademarkable images on them and yet have incorrect data. Who made these promotional materials? Where did they come from? Etc.

I'm still inclined to believe that they are legitimate information, keeping in mind that things change during development, so what may be accurate information now winds up not being so in the final product.

I also think 'three factions' could just as easily be that 2 out of the 3 are in combat on a per-map basis. Some maps it's China vs. Russia, some maps it's Russia vs. US, some maps it's US vs. China, with no 3-way mode required to meet the wording of the ad.

Commander mode making a return is interesting, though. I'm more concerned with there being real and useful voice comm than in a commander mode. Commander with no voice comm would be fail, but voice comm without commander would still be alright.

Yeah, I dont think this is rumor busting I think it is rumor coverupbecauseitstakingabigsurpriseawaythatEAneeds later.

What I got out of this is that unless EA says it is true, it is false....which isnt always true.

Remember that guy that posted up the BF3 information before release? A number of people came in here and said how he is spreading lies and false rumors and doesn't know what he is talking about. Ends up EVERYTHING he said was true. They even PMed me asking me to remove the thread, which I wouldn't because it was just discussion that anyone could make.

So anyway, rumors feed the hype train coal, but sometimes a diamond is found in the pile.
