Battlefield 4 Confirmed for Fall, Runs on Frostbite 3

DICE and EA have just revealed that Battlefield 4 will be released this Fall for current and next generation consoles and on the PC. It is powered by Frostbite 3, DICE's proprietary game engine. It will "offer players a glimpse into the future of interactive entertainment - a future that is more human, dramatic and believable than anything before it."
Battlefield 4 is a seminal moment for the Battlefield series as more award-winning, multiplayer game design elements are incorporated into the single-player campaign. In single-player, gamers will experience huge environments, a playground of destruction, access to an arsenal of vehicles and the ability to direct squad mates. Taking a page from the social aspect of multiplayer gaming, the single-player mode will now track players’ progress, adding an element of persistence and friendly competition to the campaign.

The game made its world debut today with a staggering 17-minute gameplay demo, available for view at Battlefield.com. The demo begins as the player – Recker – opens his eyes to discover that he is trapped in a rapidly sinking car with three of his squad mates. Shooting the window is the only way out. Panic and fear are pushed aside as Recker makes a difficult decision – take the shot and recover the intel but risk that not everyone will survive. The emotional demo features a cast of characters unrivaled in interactive entertainment. Players will learn how to work together in both the Campaign and Multiplayer, issuing squad orders and comparing achievements in both experiences. Adventure and Competition will unfold through a series of beautifully crafted locations constructed with some of the best art and sound design in modern shooters. All of this is only possible with Frostbite 3 – a new standard for interactive entertainment in 2013.

Executive Vice President of the EA Games Label, Patrick Soderlund had this to say about today's forthcoming reveal.
“We are so humbled and proud to debut Battlefield 4 on a global stage with simultaneous events in San Francisco and Stockholm. To be this early in development, and to already be so polished is a huge achievement for the DICE team and reflection of their passion and commitment to driving the franchise forward. Today’s demo was just the beginning -- we have so much more in store,” said Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President, EA Games Label. “It is thrilling to witness peoples’ reaction when seeing the game for the first time. It really makes you realize that we are at the beginning of a whole new era for gaming. As artists and craftspeople, we are focused on creating a dynamic, open design that brings people together with amazing, surprising unscripted moments that they’ll talk about for days. That’s the beauty of Battlefield.”

Also according to this press release, pre-orders are now available at the Battlefield 4 website. If you pre-order at participating retail outlets, you will receive a Premium expansion pack at no addition cost. Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe will be an Origin exclusive that includes the Premium expansion pack and access to the Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta.

Looks interesting although I see many recycled stuff. To be honest I don't give a damn about SP I just want them to fix MP.

Since I have nothing that will take away my money during April I think I'm gonna pre-order it.

Yeah, I think it might just be reused things as placeholders (all the russian soldiers were the same support model) like the M4 in the faultline trailer for Battlefield 3 which came from the 2010 MoH.

It looks rather intense, I felt like they were taking a few cues from Spec Ops: The line ,but perhaps for the wrong reasons*. I'm intrigued even by the singleplayer, but I was with BF3 and even then I only played through it a couple of times.

Was that console or PC footage?

      I am a total shill...

      Edit:

*Just to clarify, I meant this as in Brutality. Though when they were running from the chopper I couldn't help thinking about the chopper scene from SOtL.

Could you drive the vehicles optionally in the BF3 SP? Because if you couldn't (I'm refferring to the part when you first make contact with russian Paratroopers in BF3) then that may be one good thing they are bringing in. Unless you HAD to drive that jeep when you were trying to get to the helicopter before it was shot down.

All I'm gonna say is there better be voice com, the game is stupidly non-teamwork without it. For public play at least.

i like it, very similar and familiar to BF3 obviously, SP doesn't interest me as much as MP still though its an added extra. Frostbite 3 though, first i heard of it.

I assume a lot of the recycled assets are due to it being early in development. And the fact that the game takes place in basically the same year, so military uniforms/equipment/vehicles aren't going to change that much.

Not only that, but there is SO MUCH in BF3 anyway that I don't see how you are going to see everything be entirely new.

I have said that 3 times on reddit. Once it wasn't as well received.

I've been arguing with the /r/gaming anti-EA shills for much of the day. My karma is taking a hit.

ugh... I unsubbed from /r/gaming. I instead am on /r/games, which occasionally dips into shitfuck territory but is generally less moronic. I do find it interesting that /r/battlefield3 is surprisingly tame. I am also subscribed to some 4 BF4 subs... I don't know why I felt it necessary.

I never played Spec Ops It was like 2.50 on Amazon early 2013 and I forgot to buy it. I've heard so many good things about the story ... I'll get it on the next sale for sure.

I'd say do it. One hell of a thought provoking ride. I do hope that Dice do deliver on the story.

I dunno, this may sound really weak and lame but I could really feel an intensity from the trailer. While I shouldn't detract from the MP (which I know I'd rather play) I still hope that they improve the SP from BF3. I didn't hate BF3's SP but it wasn't particularly great.

Good thing that my lack of gaming pc right now has given me no need to visit the forums...

It can't be as bad as that MordorHQ.com site (where all the people from EAUK went). That place is a cesspool of negativity. Literally, they spend all day complaining about how bad BF is now. They hate BF so much, yet they continue to post multiple times a day on a board about BF?

Hopefully they release some MP footage and details soon that will shut some people up. There's a rumor that a MP trailer is coming out Friday/Saturday.
