Sony No Longer Shipping PlayStation 2 to Retailers in Japan

Truly, the end of an era is here. Sony is no longer shipping PlayStation 2 consoles to retailers in Japan. Though it still receives the occasional software release in the region, Sony has decided to pull the plug once and for all.

Initially released back in March of 2000, the PlayStation 2 has sold over 150 million units over a span of 12 years. There is no telling just how much longer the PS2 will be sold in other markets. There is one thing that does seem certain, however, and that this is the first step to a world where the best video game console ever is no longer sold.

Good night sweet prince. May the best console to ever exist find it's final resting place.
