Frostivus Event Details for Dota 2

Just as they do with Team Fortress 2, Valve is introducing a special Holiday 2012 event for Dota 2 fans. Yes, Frostivus is soon to arrive and with it comes frozen waters and cooperation between the two sides.
No Frostivus would be complete without endless games and riotous behavior. Raise a cup of Eultide cheer and pour it on your teammate! Fling Puck around in a game of Ice-Is-Not-Nice! Lie in the snow and make Death Prophet Angels! Fell the tallest Frostivus tree with only a Quelling Blade! See who can plant the glittering Star of Madness on Treant's forehead!

Nothing bespeaks Frostivus like presents heaped around the towers! Find the one with your name on it, or engage in a wicked game of Gankee Gift Swap. Giving and receiving gifts is the essence of Frostivus. And even in the Season of Givening, it's good to be good to yourself: The Dota store is filling up with amazing holiday items that will carry you to victory in the new year!

There's a bit more to this story, so be sure to check it out at the Frostivus landing page for Dota 2.

In addition, Valve has selected their winner of the Polycount Contest. The "Rider of the Storm" set for Disruptor by Danidem and Hunter is the winning selection in the contest.
No one will be shocked to discover that Danidem & Hunter’s set “Rider of the Storm” is our team’s pick for the best entry in the Dota 2 Polycount Contest. The mount, Rampant the Scaled Hunter, is a wicked alternative to the default with both runed beak and feathers drawing attention and creating a sleek sense of direction. Disruptor himself looks battleready and grim. The beard design and eye-patch make the portrait stand apart and both also read well at game-distance. Technical execution is at the professional level.

Perhaps the only adjustment we would make is to tone down the feathers behind the saddle, but they hardly interfere with readability and this is a minor observation.

The selected winners, in addition to the best overall winner, Rider of the Storm, will have their sets released in the big Frosivus update next week. They will all receive a share of the sales, special versions of their items, and a custom trophy-ward to show off in game.

You can check out more details on both Frostivus and the Polycount Contest courtesy of the Dota 2 blog.

Don't forget that Dota started out as a mod for Warcraft 3. A lot of the visuals are because the original mod simply used assets from Warcraft 3. They became recognizable. Now that Valve has Dota 2, it's still similar to the old designs but with decidedly Valve-esque design changes for better readability and such.

Yeah I thought about that, but didn't Valve change all the models because of copyright issues? I mean, I never played the second one but it's not like they have the Lich king, the Sylvanas or the Thrall model there right?
